Hotel pool

    Hey,
So this may seem silly to most, but it still causes me some apprehension.

Will be staying at hotel that has a swimming pool. Guests have free use of the pool and I would like to, since I hear it can be good for back/shoulder tension.

My problem is, I'm really hairy and the last time I seen a pool it was just guys with zero hair, fully grown men practically zero hair.

I feel awkward asking anyone at reception what is the correct etiquette for this, walk down in my swimming trunks? need a robe? Is the body hair an issue?

Of course all of this compounded by the fact I cannot swim, but the pool is shallower than my own height, and I know how to be careful.

Suppose just asking, how do you guys use the hotel pool, this with /out loads of body/back hair.

Must sound so silly, just something I do not know who to ask!

Bit of a gorilla myself, at least at the front, never even entered my mind to give a f*ck when in swimming pools to be honest, I wouldn't give it a 2nd thought if a few guys with no testosterone are hanging around the pool ;)

If it's bothering you, could you shave or wax the hair off?

You dont go from your room to the pool in swimming trunks. Theres a changing room.

Jaysus, I'm assuming most of the non preening normal lads have a good bit of hair on their chest and possibly their back. I wouldn't be waxing mine anyway!

I'm one step away from a gorilla and I don't really mind but I'm also as fat as a whale so I do feel self conscience so I would wax the back if I'm going on holiday or hotel swimming pools normally. Its as much for the poor people having to look at me as it is for me!!!!!

Dont let it bother you. Enjoy the pool. Stop worrying.

I would imagine they would have a changing area beside the pool. I am not hairy but would think it is strange if I had to walk through the halls of a hotel and get on a lift in my trunks to get to the pool. Bad layout if you do. Also would not worry about being hairy either btw. You see all types at the pool.

This is the SOP (standard operating procedure) for hairy guests using the hotel pool.

1 - walk in to changing room
    2 - remove clothes
    3 - put on trunks
4 - have quick shower without gel (it's a courtesy move)
5 - get in pool and enjoy yourself
    6 - have shower
    7 - Dry off
    8 - put on clothes
9 - enjoy the rest of your day

    Once you've done this a few times you can start to do the following;
A - ask pool attendant for towel to use after your shower and throw it on the floor of the changing room once you're finished with it. (Near the laundry bin but NOT in it).
B - Bring complimentary gel and shampoo from your room in to the shower and leave the empty bottles on the floor of the shower.
(You're a guest, the riff raff gym members don't matter to you.)

Ironically, my gym/pool is militant about people wearing swimming caps even when the hair on their back is longer than that on their head.

It depends on the hotel. Most will have changing rooms next to the pool, but for some (e.g. fancy spas) it's the norm to go down in a robe and slippers, with your swimming gear already on underneath. Usually you can pick up a towel at a desk as you enter the pool area. Then you head to the pool, take off your robe and leave it on a lounger. Afterwards use the towel to dry off, put the robe back on (still in damp swimming gear) and head back to your room.

To avoid confusion, I always ask at the reception desk when I check in!

As for the body hair, nobody is going to notice or care except you. But as someone mentioned, there is usually a shower right next to the pool to have a quick rinse before you get in (everybody should do that, regardless of body hair). However in some places it is mandatory to wear a bathing cap. If it is, they'll make that rule clear and they'll have them available to buy for a small fee.

I dont think you should throw your empty shampoo bottles etc on the shower floor as they are a serious slip hazard for other people particularly an elderly person

If it's a hotel pool then you will have every size and shape and gorilla to glass smooth chests, tall, small, fat, skinny. And no-one cares less.

I'd be on gorilla side and it has never even been a thought.

But as above, quick 15sec shower before entering pool - idea is to wash off loose hair from head and chest to stop it clogging the pumps.
