On GOLD (on sky) is Fools and Horses broadcasting in 4:3 for everyone?
Wouldnt be the biggest fan of the early episodes (Del too much of a bully to Rodney to be be funny (I know I am in a minority of one! )) Do like the later ones but cant watch them in 4:3 at all!

In the past all episodes were broadcast in widescreen format

Good, All the episodes bar the last few specials were filmed in 4:3, the practice of zooming to make fake 16:9 is terrible and stretching is even worse.

I could never understand people who were happy to watch 3ft tall fat people waddling about just so they could have a picture covering all of their telly when 16:9 sets were introduced while only 14:9 analogue was available.

Cool; but thats a different argument - doesn't actually answer the question! ;-)

I noticed this yesterday too, yes they seem to be broadcasting them this way (4:3) now , have never noticed this before despite them being filmed 4:3 - as the other poster said.

There's one of two reasons for this. Either your TV is set to stretch 4:3 content to fit the TV screen, or your Sky box is doing it.

I found that the only way to get a Sky HD box to get the aspect ratio correct on SD content is to set the HD Output Mode to Auto and your TV supports the aspect ratio flags over HDMI. Some don't... *cough* Samsung *cough*. If it's set to 720p or 1080i it always stretches.

I can't see Gold lasting long with pillarboxing the content though. Challenge did the same recently but they didn't last long.
