fbd insurance for farm jeep

Hi so I called into fbd to get a commercial quote for jeep used for farming. Also have farm insurance with them.

They said there commercial policy is not based on a no claims discount, rather a flat commercial rate. (Even though they wanted to know how many years my ncd was at present)

So basically if I was to have a crash, I would not loose my no claims discount as basically I won't have one with the policy, and in theory my cost of insurance won't go up the following year if I had a crash.

On the other hand after 5 years with no claims if I was to leave them I wouldn't get a no claims certificate stating 5 years no claim bonus for being a safe driver as its not part of the commercial policy.

They offer a written "word" basically saying you didn't have a crash for x amount of years.

So my question is, Is this a way of fbd "trapping" you into staying with them as you won't have a ncd to pass onto another insurance company in years to come......

I'm a bit wary of it, so any one in the know might be able to give a clear answer.

    Thanks in advance

I made sure and got the lady i was dealing with to confirm the facts stated above, that's the reason I'm so weary of moving to them. Would hate to think for a small saving over my current policy renewal I'd be tied to them in years to come with no where else to go due to no "no claims bonus"

According to citizensinformation.ie it is a legal requirement for motor insurance companies to keep a record of and issue you with a no claims bonus statement which you can use in the event of moving
So I'd have to assume ,fbd's pricing mechanism was awkwardly explained giving the wrong idea ?

I dont get why insurance companies only allow you use your NCB for one vehicle. Whats the logic behind it besides price gouging?

This is to prevent people insuring multiple vehicules for other to drive. Legally you make a declaration that you are the main driver of the car/van. The one NCB for one car is to pevent parents insuring extra cars and naming there sone or daughter who will be the defacto main driver.

In general it is possible to insure a van for the first and get credit for your driving history. I jave a small van insured and while I had no NCB for it I was allowed a NCB when I first insured it. A good broker will check this out for you.

I got a full NCB on the jeep when i first insured it on the basis of having one on the car.

OP was told by FBD that they would give him a written record of his claims experience while he is with them.

Its a funny one, she explained that if I had an accident my insurance would not go up, even with several accidents over several years she said my insurance would not be affected. I think I'll have to go back in and get the policy there going to provid me with and see can I figure it out

I thought all insurers were the same, never had a NCB on the jeep nor got loaded after a claim and there was plenty, If FBD certified that you had no claims, how would it be different from certifying eligibility for NCB in another company.
I think you're just overthinking it
