It's because you're only getting a usable signal on 1 out of the 2 frequencies on which Saorview is transmitted.

What kind of aerial do you have?

    Thanks

Not sure - had it installed a few years ago along with an aviva combo box

Seems a case of getting the installer back - could wind have messed it up?

Yes, it could be weather damage, but also could be something as simple as the plug on the end of the cable maybe getting some rough treatment, & the connection needing to be redone.

when you say plug on end of cable - do you mean a connection to aerial on the roof or internally?

I mean inside, where the aerial cable plugs into your combo box.
