I have not had my own policy for 18 months as i have been away.

You usually retain your NCB for up to 12 months once a policy has ceased.

Being named in a policy can help count towards NCB but is not actually your own NCB .

2 years is the ncb retention.

Your NCB will stay valid for 2 years after the expiration of the last policy in your own name. Being a named driver on someone else's policy doesn't retain it.

    Thank you for the responses.

I was sure being a named driver would allow me to maintain my NCB.

So it looks Ill have to buy something, insure it and then sell it as I wont be driving.

You wouldn't retain by being a named driver.

Why not get a €100 car park up insure and there ya go. Get 3 rd party minimum and try get insurance will be hardest part due to age of car.

Yeah I think thats what I'll have to do.
Might be tough to get insurance as at that price range it wont have an NCT.

Plenty with nct get one even with short left.

You ain't driving so no worrying about driving without and if you do want to re do do this even if no tax as you are allowed to drive it to and from test without tax so if you sign off the road.

Get something like a yaris or Micra or daihatsu.

Just on another note, if I sell it on is my insurance still valid?

If you sell it would be void as you have no insurable interest.

Try who you were last with and try a few brokers.

Just put that up to give you an idea.

Car I'd roadworthy from nct cert comes to it.
