    The small wheel is gone, the teeth are curled over. Where's the most likely source for replacement parts? (mid Kildare). The bike will become a student commuter with minimal mileage use and minimal residual expectations.

    Can the small wheel plate just be turned around for a few more miles? I did that years ago on a motorbike, it lasted longer than the rest of the bike!

    You don't need to replace them with biopace rings. Any generic ones will do, which is handy as Shimano haven't made Biopace for 25 years. Just make sure the BCD (bolt circle diameter) matches. It's probably 130mm.
