Hi, looking for a bit of advice.. i have a subsoiler designed for a compact tractor, it has a depth of about 2 foot. my compact doesnt pull it - surprise surprise! anyway, i;m looking at getting a larger tractor for various reasons and i;m trying to get an idea of what kind of size tractor i might need to pull the subsoiler. it's limestone subsoil mainly with some bits of clay and adobe. would a 4wd be any advantage? i've a limited budget of around 3.5k and for that kind of money am seeing 2wd 60hp machines from the 80s e.g. international 880- wondering if that sort if thing would do the job ?

Two foot deep is going to be a tough pull, depending on your subsoil. Would you consider hiring a tractor for a week or two?
90 or 100hp minimum, with wide tyres and lots of thread on them.
If I was hiring something for this job, I'd be looking at a 130 or 140hp, something like a Deere 6800.
If the sub soiler is supposed to work on a compact tractor, you might pull it asunder with that kind of grip though . .........

90 horses will do if ground conditions are fairly good and you have good tyres
