Always one to plough his own furrow, Ryan Tubridy will face off against Ireland rugby international Sean O'Brien on the first ever Late Late Show Plough-Off on Friday night.

Booterstown boy Tubs is no stranger to ploughing having first turned his hand to turning the sod at last year’s National Ploughing Championships but how he will do when faced with O’Brien, whose farming background will definitely come in handy?

    image.jpg

As well as taking on the Plough-Off challenge, Carlow man O’Brien will be on the couch to chat about his storming performance for the Lions, battling for Ireland on the rugby field and our chances in the upcoming Autumn International series.

Also on Friday night's Late Late, ahead of the championships at Screggan, Tullamore from September 19 to 21, National Ploughing Association chief Anna May McHugh will be in studio to discuss how she took the National Ploughing Championships from humble beginnings to one of the biggest gatherings in Europe.

She’ll reveal what it was like to be a woman working in the male-dominated world of farming when she got involved with the championships. She will also discuss her life-long love of rural life, why she’s never revealed her age and why she won’t be hanging up her wellies anytime soon.

Author Marian Keyes, who has sold more than 35 million books and been translated into 36 languages, will talk about her latest novel 'The Break' and chat to Ryan about family, "Himself" and surviving tough times.

Comedian Eddie Izzard will be in studio to chat about playing royalty in the new film Victoria and Abdul, in which he plays Queen Victoria's convincing son Bertie, making the transition from hugely successful comedian to serious actor; spending some of his early years living in Co Down, and his ambitions to enter politics at the next UK General Election.

Music comes from The Stunning and singer and keyboardist Paul Carrack, who has worked with The Smiths, Genesis, Roxy Music and Squeeze.

Not the worst lineup ever. Eddie Izzard, Marian Keyes and the Stunning are all worth a look.

I'm confused, is that image in reference to his ploughing or his presenting?

Looks like a decent line-up. If we can find a decent presenter we'd have the makings of a good show.

An agricultural slant on 'car crash TV'? ;)

Heroin game: Shoot up when he asks Anna May McHugh if it's "rude to ask a lady how old she is".

Marian Keyes won't be on the Marian Finucane Show anytime soon.

Back in 2014, she was very critical of Marian Finucane following this interview. Keyes said that Finucane had "the compassion and empathy of a cardboard box" and she claimed she didn't sleep for 43 hours after the interview .

Evening folks. It's the first friday night in a while that I don't have any driving duties. I'm heading for the pub to drink several pints. I may or may not get back .
    Catch yez all later.

PS. Great game Sunday, Lady C. Galway were worthy winners. As you know I was supporting Waterford but at the end of the day I was willing Galway to win because they were the better team.

I was delighted for Galway!!! However, I must admit watching the Waterford manager being interviewed after the match was pretty tough. He behaved so graciously, I've seen other managers like Brian Cody (and Davy Fitzgerald) be less than courteous to Marty Morrissey even after winning matches.

Here's Davy behaving like a bold pup after losing to Limerick in 2015 :D

Sound seems to drop off at the end of the Cody clip.

Does it have the but where they go back to the studio and Loughnane asks will somebody please pick Marty up off the floor?

Unfortunately, I couldn't find the complete interview anywhere Donie. Cody was in such a surly mood that day, I dread to think what he would have been like if Kilkenny had lost. I admire what he has achieved for his county but I'm no fan of the man.

Is there anyone old enough to remember this? Ger Loughnane has a little go at Eamon Cregan of Limerick on the Sunday Game. It was All Ireland Final night back in 1997 and Cregan congratulated Clare but said something along the lines of 'it wasn't the greatest game of hurling ever'....Loughnane was not impressed :D

Will miss the first half hour as the new season of Gogglebox is back on Channel 4.
Will record the new series of American Horror Story on Fox HD at 10pm and watch the LLS.

    Evening all :)

'The Great Irish Plough-Off' - why didn't RTE think of this before? :D

A bit like 'It's A Knockout', with tractors flipping and rolling through the air just like the police cars in 'The Blues Brothers'.

With lots of innuendo-filled commentary by Al Porter.

The undercard at Mayweather v McGregor was rotten,

They should have had The Tullow Tank v Tubridy The Tool as a support.

The Ploughing fans of Las Vegas have been starved of decent ploughing matches for years, they would have loved it.

I was never a fan of Keyes. She's a headwrecker and her books are woeful. Guaranteed she won't take a breath tonight.

    Good Evening All :)

Tonight's my first LLS of the season, I hope ye all had an enjoyable Summer break.

So what's everyone drinking? I've just opened a bottle of Aldi's finest Prosecco. I can highly recommend it, it's €10.29 and it's fab! I think it tastes way better than some of the more expensive labels I've purchased.

That would be good. Therefore it will never happen.

They're honestly having the people who had a meme viral twitter video on? The clip was only good in a so bad it's good way. This is honestly the most ridiculous thing they have EVER had on, even for the LLS. I can only hope there has to be something more to this.

JP McManus could do worse than send this family some money to pay for Roisin's treatment. She'll repay him in Art when she's older.

They should just call themselves The WallStunning, so they play songs from both of their incarnations.

Sky Arts began a series last week called ‘Rock and Roll’ at 9pm on Friday.
The first episode was all about ‘death’.
    This week it’s subtitled ‘pain’

Genuinely not making that up. It’s almost as if they are thinking “well, that Late Late Show on RTE gets lots of viewers, so maybe we should just copy their misery content?”

This post first appeared in an amended form last week on the Beebrock thread. It was repeated this week.
If you like to talk about Music Programmes on the Television, do drop in! :)
