Vegan Protein Powder

    Hi there,

I'm trying to find the best vegan protein powder. I want to try it having tried whey protein before and I want to see the differences between them. I usually go for either bulkpowders or myprotein. What is the best protein powder on either of these sites? The relevant metrics would be protein content per serving, calories per serving and then other nutritional information e.g. Vitamins, minerals.

Thank you in advance for your feedback, points and replies

Soy protein isolate is probably the highest in protein content (90%). Pea isolate might be better as there are often concerns raised about eating too much soy

Soy contains compounds which impede nutrient absorption. These can be reduced. For example they can be pretty much entirely removed/neutralised by fermenting (tempeh) then frying. I would be surprised if they were in very high quantities in protein powder.

Another concern is often about the high level of plant oestrogen in soy. It appears this has no significant effect on human hormones though, or other dangerous effects.

Lastly gm soy raises both ethical and health concerns. It is altered to withstand a proprietary weedkiller. So fields can be made unfit for growing anything but more gm crops from the same company. They exploit this.
There are serious questions about exposure to high levels of this weedkiller, including questions about cancer. I think it is also this weedkiller that appears to be associated with colony collapse disorder in bees (definitely same company anyway).

Tl;dr - gm free soy protein is probably grand.

Wouldn't be concerned about soy really. For high protein content I use soy or pea protein. Pea is really strong tasting so you need to have it in a smoothie really. I have mine with peanut butter, banana, cocoa, soy milk, some sweetener.

For all round nutrients, taste but has less protein I go with hemp which I find delicious. ( 20 amino acids, Omega 3, 6 and 9, vitamins, minerals (Zinc, Iron, Calcium, Magnesium and Potassium), antioxidants, fibre and enzymes.)
