OK Know I'm going to get "wheres your man going with his Moet" but handy gifts, for Christmas (there I've said it)...seems damn good "value" all the same...

    Dunnes
    Normally 50euro.
    Reduced to 44 euro.
25% off for 6 or more (can include other wine etc) = 33euro (get this back in vouchers closer to Christmas)
    Use 10euro voucher = 23euro

So if have 4 vouchers can get 4 bottles of Moet + 2 bottles cheap wine for less then 110euro.

Are your sums right? How do you use four vouchers if you're only spending 150? Don't you need to spend 200?

Light as opposed to meaty fish or even a chicken dish thats not overly spiced.

Personally- I'd suggest a vinho verde (they're at 6.50 in Dunnes- and no-one seems to ever buy them)- is a far better buy- and once properly chilled- most people are very complimentary about it- and have absolutely no idea what they're drinking (its a nice citrusy taste, lightly fizzed, very dry and not overly sweet).

Biggest seller in the wine sale in Dunnes so far- is probably Yellow Foot Pinot Grigio @ 9 a bottle. Once again- very drinkable- but honestly- I'd rather the cheaper vinho verde.

Personally- I actually hate Moet- and pretty much all champagnes- I find the combination of fizz and sulphur- nauseating and not very enjoyable. Even some of the Italian or Spanish sparkling wines- which cost a fraction of Moet etc- are far better.

If you're buying the Moet in Dunnes as a present- this is good value- if you want something to drink yourself- talk to some of the guys there- they'll point you at a few other options- a fraction of the price- which you'll probably enjoy just as much, if not more..............

Beef bourgignon is beef stewed in burgundy (red) wine. Drinking champagne with it is a waste of both.

I know both are from the pinot grape and I know some trendy chefs recommend champers with some beef dishes but if you are cooking with burgundy, stay with it.

Moët is a blend of 3 grape varieties Pinot noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunièr
There are far nicer champagnes at cheaper price imo

I actually prefer Heineken or Guinness. Don't intend to drink any myself (herself will though) bar a glass at a party/occasion. Saves me having to think about what I bring...

there was some program on a few years back, I think they were saying Del Trotter pronunced it correctly, or at least closer to how it should be said

    https://vinepair.com/booze-news/pronounce-moet-chandon-complicated/
So do you pronounce the Moin Mo& Chandon? Mo-Aye? Nope:

The correct way to pronounce it is ‘Mo’wett’.

Mois indeed French champagne and was founded in 1743 by Claude MoThis is where it gets confusing. Mowas born in France in 1683; however, his name is not French, it is Dutch, which is why it is pronounced thus, says Helen Vause, public relations spokesperson for Mo& Chandon in New Zealand. ‘He was descended from a family of winemakers established in the Champagne region since the fourteenth century,’ says Ms Vause.

The word Chandon was added in 1832 after Pierre-Gabriel Chandon’s daughter married into the Mofamily. It is generally accepted that French words drop the ‘t’ but when the word is followed by a word starting with a vowel the ‘t’ is usually pronounced, which is another theory people tout as the reason for it being ‘Mo’wett’.

However, in this case the general rule does not apply says Myreille Pawliez, senior lecturer in French at Victoria University. ‘Proper nouns in French, which include names of people and places, don’t follow the general rule and because there are so many exceptions it can get confusing,’ she says.‘In this case it is two proper names put together (Moet Chandon) and you just have to know how to pronounce them.’

Did that clear things up? No? Don’t worry, because there’s more!

‘With the word “et” you never voice the “t”,’ says Ms Pawliez.

My post was indicating that the price of €20 is about right, and the higher price was indeed inflated. Amber? was pretty accurate IMO.

A simple G-search indicates that the champagne has been on sale for several years, and yes, I'm sure they were different years, crops and tastes: but the price remained close to €20.
