URGENT

Re. Failure to restore water supply to [address] for 7 days, since Wednesday 30th August.

To whom it may concern:

I am writing to complain in the strongest possible terms about the failure of Irish Water to restore the water supply to [address].

Our water supply stopped on Wednesday, 30th August and we notified Irish Water about the problem by phone that same evening. A week has now passed, and despite numerous complaints to Irish Water, we are still without water. This, needless to say, is completely unacceptable.

Three people reside at that address and to be left without water for any length of time at all was a major inconvenience. We were unable to shower, unable to use the toilet, unable to wash clothes or dishes, and we had to purchase drinking water. The house, as a result, became a health hazard and is completely uninhabitable. My daughter has had to move into a hotel and has incurred significant expense as a result.

The inconvenience and expense to which we have been put as a result of Irish Water’s failure to do its job is completely unacceptable. For this to have been allowed to continue for a few days was very wrong, but the fact that this situation is still ongoing – a week later – is incredible.

To compound matters further, we received this evening an extremely disappointing update from Irish Water, namely that a risk assessment has to be carried out before the necessary work can be undertaken to restore our water supply, and that this assessment might happen this week, or maybe next week.  This is intolerable and I am appalled at the level of service which Irish Water is providing.

How is it permissible for Irish Water to dither and take such a lax approach to the restoration of a service as basic and fundamental as water, despite our repeated complaints, and your awareness of the hardship which this was and is continuing to cause us? Dublin is a modern western city and it is shocking and unbelievable that such any house could be left without water for such a prolonged period of time despite repeated complaints.

In light of the above, I must demand immediate action: the restoration of our water supply must, at this stage, be given immediate priority.
