Honda CR-V brake discs

Recently had the car in for a service, its at approx. 53,000km

Before I brought it in, there was a slight screeching from the front brakes when pressed. Told the service manager and he said discs are fine, pads are fine, possibly a hard spot on pads causing it.

However did say at next service in 20,000km pads will need changing but also discs.

Said discs are vented which is usually normal but of a very soft material and generally are changed out at 80,000km

Now this is the first car I have ever had where discs were replaced this early

    Any thoughts?

Look at the discs through the alloys, are there lips on them?
If discs are not hot you can also feel with your fingers*

73k kms is a very reasonable amount of mileage to get from a set of discs.

The 80k kms is a guide, it doesn't mean you must change them at that point but a guide to inspect them and change them if necessary. Yours are worn as maybe you do a lot more short stop start journeys which are harder on discs than long motorway journeys, because theyre worn at 73k kms doesn't mean theyre flawed or 'soft' in any way, it just means you need new discs.

My car has 80kms on it, it had new discs at 50k kms (by the previous owner) If I get to 100k kms on them i'll be happy as I'd consider 50k kms good mileage to get from front discs.

I'm more going on previous experience of cars I've had before and my driving circumstances. Last car I had got me from 0-145,000km on the same discs and they were still not in the ball park of being changed

I have a fairly easy commute daily with very little braking. Just set off and basically I hit my first set of lights in the last 500m of my 30km commute

Same from previous car, got an awful lot more distance on the discs than this time around. Just wondering of its a Honda thing with their discs or is the dealer just trying to pull a fast one

Warranty is up before next service anyway so will be going to an independent at that point

Yep i have a crv and discs where changed around that or 100k (sorry dont remember exactly) but the car is heavier than usual hatch or saloon due to 4wd etc so brakes wear quicker. Car as a whole though is bullet proof - small things like rear parking senors sometimes not working but all major items engine suspension steering etc. very solid.

Was your last car of a similar size and weight? Heavier car will wear through discs and pads quicker.

Not as big but was a Subaru Legacy estate AWD so not that small either

Understand the CR-V has a bit more buld to it and mine is the 4WD version aswell...must get down and have a look and see what condition is like on them

Getting tyres replaced soon so wheels will be off so can get a good inspection then

Copper grease on the back of the pads will eliminate screeching brakes .
