Pub Licence Objection - Licensing Court

    Hi,

I am wondering if anyone has any info regarding the process involved in objecting to a renewal of a pub licence?

I have recently lodged an objection and I believe the next step is a court date. I am not looking for the pub to lose its licence, but I just want to try and get some points addressed/conditions placed on the renewal to sort out some ongoing issues – I feel as though the publican will be very hostile about it too!
Has anybody ever been through this and maybe could shed some light on what will happen at the court hearing?

i.e. Is it just a formality to attend, or am I required to tell the court/judge the basis for the objection on the day?
Should I have a solicitor on my side?
Does the publican normally attend or are they required to be there?

Sorry, just never been in this position before and have no idea how to proceed?

    Thanks

These matters arise at the Annual Licensing District Court each September and adjournments thereof.

You should consult a Solicitor now.

I am aware the licensing court is September, as I said I have already lodged the objection.

Do you think a solicitor is definitely required then? Would it be foolish or a waste of time to attend by myself?

    Thanks

Did you lodge the objection without first seeking legal advice as to whether or not you could ground your objection?

No, that is not the case.

I am asking for some information on peoples experience of the process in the past!

In a fair cases of licence objections, the local Gardaí are the sole objectors. It may be worth your while popping into your local station and raising initial concerns with them. You never know; they may well share your views.

how did your objection go ? I know it was a year ago but I would be interested if it came to a conclusion.
