Whining and stressed dog at night.

    Hi everyone

    Hoping to get some advice.

We have a six year old Airedale terrier. We recently moved Rufus to sleeping in the utility room from the kitchen/diner as we have a 7 months old baby who will be crawling soon and we also got the whole place redecorated recently aswell.

Rufus although not being a shedding dog still looses alot of hair and he also has a liking of rubbing himself off every wall at night.

So a decision was made to let him sleep in the utility (which is big) as opposed to the kitchen.

But the poor dog will just not settle in the utility at all. He whines for alot of the night, paces the floor and scrapes at the door. No toy or treat will help him settle.

He is a very well exercised dog getting loads of runs up the field.

We are giving it another few days to see will he settle, if not we'll just move him back into the kitchen as it's unfair to have him stressed like that. But if anyone had any advice to help get him settled it would be appreciated.

Are there washing machines or dryers in there? Even though they might not be running at night, your dog might be afraid of the noise of them during the day and is scared being locked in beside them.

    Thanks for reply.

Yes the washing machine is there but he never passes any heed on it. He'd run around in loudest thunder so he's not a fearful dog at all.

If the utility room is next to the kitchen you could try a baby gate so he can still see into the kitchen.

Could it be that he used to be able to hear the family upstairs and felt connected to them, but now feels cut off and isolated as he cant hear you anymore?
