We are going to pay off our mortgage.

How do we get the deeds back and what do we do next?

    Any help??

    Contact the bank.

Ask how you pay it off.

They will send the deeds. Probably to your solicitor but maybe to you.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Request the bank to issue you with a redemption figure. Once paid off you may have to pay a small fee to release the deeds and really don't need a Solicitor unless you are selling or switching mortgage.

Banks do not hold deeds any more once the mortgage is paid off and released. Solicitors are generally charging for the holding of deeds, so check with yours in advance. I ended up buying a small fire-proof safe to store mine in - also useful for passports, wills, house insurance documents etc.
