Changing battery

I've a Bigotti Milano ladies watch. I opened it to try to change the battery but I don't know did I break a trigger. Is there usually a catch to unlock the battery or does it just pop out? I'm afraid I won't be able to get it fixed and I ordered a battery online. I couldn't get the old battery back into the slot either. Would a jeweler be able to help me? I was hoping I could just change the battery myself and not be over charged.

Looks like an easy battery change nothing strange at all.

If your going to go to a jewellers to get it done avoid fast-fix they will charge you 25-30 euro. Just find a small jewellers and most will do it for under a tenner.

I ordered a battery online and was going to change it myself but I think I broke the catch that keeps the battery in place. When I get the battery I will see if it will hold together with some tape or something. If that fails I will have to go to a jewellers.

Doesn't look broken in your pic.

It looks to me that the tang (my term) on the left releases the battery. Try moving it slightly to the left to allow space to insert the battery.

There's a screw to hold it in place but I never opened the screw so I cracked the other piece. Sorry about the quality of the picture as I was trying to hold the watch at the same time.

I have the new battery and can't fit it into the slot so will have to go to the jewellers. I'm feeling a bit dozy that I thought I could fix it myself.

Thanks for that but I got it out, it's getting it back in is the problem.

Getting it back in is the reverse of taking it out....

There's a swingarm (green) and you just push it to the side, battery in, then let go of swing arm. The video explains it perfectly, it's a standard Miyota battery retaining mechanism, piece of piss to replace.

If you've watched the video and it still doesn't fit then you've probably got the wrong battery.

I changed the battery and the watch isn't working. It seems the battery is not the issue. Thanks to the vid above I got the new one in and it is the correct size definitely.

Clean the contacts and the battery and try again. Can't hurt anyway.

I never unscrewed the catch to let out the battery so I broke something inside it. It snapped when it popped out so the connection is gone I'd say. There wouldn't be a screw there unless it was for a reason.

Does the watch work if you hold the battery in with your finger?

No. I have the whole lot put back together and it's not working. Even when I held it in with my finger it didn't work then either.

You don't need to unscrew anything to get the battery out. You push the swingarm (green) to the side, it bends ever so slightly and the battery pops out.

If you forced the battery out in some other way then it's possible you damaged something. A clearer (in focus) picture might give us a better chance of advising you.

Otherwise I would just leave it in to a jeweler because you are not having much joy yourself.

I am updating this thread just to say I had to send it off eventually. They cleaned it and put a new battery in. I don't know if the one I bought was even viable but the insides needed to be cleaned anyway. At least it's not broken and working good as new now. Thanks a lot to all the people who offered advice too.

Glad you got it sorted. Knowing that there's nothing broken and it's still functional, I hope you are not discouraged from trying to change the battery yourself again next time. I think you were probably 95% there and it was just some small issue with a dud battery or something of that nature.
