Does any one know the best way to drum up sponsorship for a less mainstream sport such as darts.

It's not a very expensive sport to take part in from what I know about it, all you need is three darts and a dart board.

What is it you want sponsorship for?

    Okay, fair play.

Are you looking for all expenses covered, ie travel costs, accommodation, food, entry fees, clothing etc.?

Or is it a more like someone willing to pay a few bob to alleviate your costs in return for a few square inches of advertising on your jersey?

Either way, what do you have to offer a sponsor in return?

Is there a realistic chance the sponsor might get something in return for the investment?

Id be looking for a help with flights n accommodation fees id cover my own food n daily expenses as I already do. For a decent backer I would offer a cut of all winnings and if they wanted space on my shirt no problems.

How about writing to the airline and hotel or hotel chain you will most likely need to use?

Explain the situation and possible benefits for them, I'm not trying to be smart here but maybe some up and coming micro brewery would like to get on board.

If you can show a sponsor that you have potential to be a winner or have a unique selling point that makes you stand out from the other 99 people in the top 100 and you can raise the sponsors profile as a result, it probably sounds better than trying to sell them a portion of your future earnings for money up front.

There are a lot of companies out there who would love to be associated with an up and coming talent that will likely give them international exposure but you've got to sell yourself properly to them. Telling some business person that you'll look after them in the unlikely event that you win prize money is probably not going to encourage them to part with their hard earned money.
