Using existing Cat5e/tel wire to upgrade Ethernet

My house is 9 years old and I was looking at the existing wiring of cat 5e and having trouble understand how it is wired and where it terminates. My end goal is to upgrade the ports to rj45 and have Ethernet throughout.

Confusing part is each telephone point has a blanking plate as we have never used them, behind the plate is 2 cat5e cables.

In 4 rooms of the house each port has 2 cat5e cables. The main junction box outside the house I only see 1 cat5e end, so Im unsure where the rest of the are joined/terminate?

The main telephone point in the hallway only has 1 cat5e cable coming out and again never been used for phone.

I'm going to need to install a switch but not sure if possible or what the existing set up is.

    Anyone any ideas?

Odds are theres a switch/router under the stairs or in the attic. You should at least be able to find the patch panel where all those cat5 terminate

The cable is probably looped from one socket on to the next one

Christ, I wondered where that came from. My house is the same. Useless.
