    Hi,

    Forecast :

    (a) Buy from bricks
    (b) Something else is better.
    (c) Spend more and get a different one altogether.
    (d) Reviews of a different model are terrible.
    (e) Had one like it for five years, packed in....

    Waiting......

    Jay

I got a Hisense 50inch 4k for €415 off Amazon so this doesn't seem all that great

Great value for money considering its a couple of hundred euro more expensive in Irish stores
Couldn't recommend the TV in aldi at all

I cannot understand why there are none in the North either. To me they're just allowing Lidl a free run at it .

My suspicion is that Asda and Aldi have some arrangement on the whole North South thing.

Who confirmed the bargain? Bauhn TVs have had dire reviews. Best buying a TV from a specialist not a supermarket.

No, based on the fact that we have Aldi down here, they don't.

They have Asda up there. We don't.

I bought a 43" LED tv from aldi around 2 1/2 years ago and its still working perfectly.

The sound was the only issue i had with it. It wasnt very loud so i got a cheap sound bar and its been perfect since

Asda are owned by Wal-Mart, Aldi are owned by ALDI Einkauf GmbH & Co. oHG so I can't see them coming to any arrangement. In fact it looks like Aldi are making inroads against Wal-Mart in the US: Aldi Vs. Wal-Mart.

No one knows for sure why there are no Aldi stores in NI. They announced "massive expansion" in the UK last year but not a single store in NI. Same for any Irish press releases.

Aldi was split into 2 seperate entities some years ago as the two founding brothers didn't get on anymore, Aldi North and Aldi South. Not only did they split Aldi within Germany in Half, but also the global rights. Aldi North covers Northern Germany, Poland, France, Spain, Netherland, Belgium etc. Aldi South has the rights to the southern part of Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Hungary, the USA, Australia, mainland UK and Ireland. You can see at the Logo of each Aldi Branch if it belongs to Aldi North or South (North is Blue/White and south is Blue/Orange).

But somehow they never covered NI in their negotiations at the time, which is why Aldi Sued has been reluctant to open shops, in case of breaking their legal agreement with Aldi North. And the market in NI is just not big enough for them to warrant a legal argument with the other Party. Apparently there are negotiations happening in the background, but things take time.

Eddie Hobbs, remember that fella, said something that stuff once.

Buy a good tv, best you can afford and today's technology not some old clearance because you keep a TV for many years so get great value from it.

I both a 720p TV then out came 1080p channels and now there's 4k channels, movies and consoles. Now I want, maybe even need a new TV. The wife disagrees on this point.

Yea that's exactly how I feel. Whenever I'm getting something expensive like a laptop etc I always tend to get a decent one so it will last me a bit longer. If it's something you'll have for a long time you should get a decent one.

Just for reference, my parents bought a 49" LCD in Aldi (parnell st.) in 2005. Still working away today with regular use.

Granted, the past few years when you turn it on first, it takes about a minute for the picture to come on. After that its smooth sailing, still a fantastic picture on it. Even comparing it to my own much more recent 40" Samsung LCD, it really is a fine set and it was a fantastic bargain at the time too!
