BMW E90 camshaft pulley failure

    Hi folks

Issues with my E90. I think my camshaft pully is after breaking. I heard a loud bang as I was driving through the underground car park of my apartment complex, stopped to check engine and spotted the pully on the ground with the belt dislodged from all other pullys for the alternator and water pump etc.

    Two questions for you...

One: what's a rough price to repair?

Two: can I drive the car without the belt? As it's stuck two floors down it will be awkward to get towed. Obviously I can't go long distance but can I drive 500m to the nearest garage to have it fixed?

Are you sure its camshaft pulley and not your auxiliary belt that would be on alternator power steering etc, if it was your camshaft pulley the engine wouldnt run

The car was definitely running after it happened so maybe not camshaft. I looked online and could only find diagrams one belt on the engine block though. Also it seems to be a dampened pully. I've Attached pictures which might help.

Either way if the belt is connected to alternator and steering it would be ok To drive. I think it also serves the water pump though so I assume the engine would overheat pretty quickly.

Sorry it's the pully to the crankshaft not the camshaft!
Looking at it again it's called the pully forms part of the auxiliary belt/serpentine belt.

That happened to me when I was driving. The belt snapped though. Pulley did not fail. I drove for about another five minutes with no power steering and no water pump and no alternator.. The water temperature was starting to go up but it was fine to drive. If you drive it too long it will overheat obviously as you have no water pump. Best of luck.

    Is that diesel?
Think you have an electric water pump and electric power steering on that so you should be ok.
Tbh might be just as easy replace on the spot. Should be easy enough change (if it's manual. Auto might need something to lock the crankshaft). Good lamp, torx sockets, etc.
Changed mine in 20 mins or so.
    YouTube is your friend:)

Think it's called a harmonic balancer. BMW prices will make your eyes water. Was a lot less but still pricey enough from "Mick"
