    Hey,

I'm looking to change my car, I have a 2004 Honda Civic Sport which was in good nick until two days ago the gear box has started acting up and local garage has said it needs a new gear box  Typical timing! The plan was to sell it, try get roughly 2000 for it and get something from UK as the sterling is great now.

The gear box has put a big spanner in the works as to fix it is going to cost me up on 800e. Dont want to sink that money into a car I'm getting rid of straight away so trying to assessing my options. Looking at seeing what scrappage schemes are going now. Is anybody aware of any good ones at the moment?

    Regards,
    Joe

You wouldn't have got €2k for it for a start. It's not worth putting €800 into it if you're not keeping it. It's more a €1000 to €1200 car when it's working.

Scrappage deals are on brand new cars, and are manufacturer discounts more than anything.

I'd stick to your original idea of buying in the U.K but with a lower budget. Unless you're stuck for something to drive in the meantime.

Car is worth nothing as it stands, so arguably you could get your €800 back if you fix it up and need a car in the next few days and don't have the funds or time set aside for your uk car.

I'm guessing the OPs is petrol civic if the gearbox is gone.

Except you need to have something diesel from within their group for more than 6 months.

Well 2000 was the most I thought I'd get to be honest, was hoping more toward 1500 but maybe that was even high!

Been fairly keen on the idea of going to UK for a new car alright so think I'll stick with that but dont know what to do with the civic now, how much would you think you'd get for one of them if I were to go scrap yard with it? Everything is working fine apart from gear box issue and it's very clean, that's what is so annoying now.

And yes, it's the 1.6 VTEC sport petrol model

And waive the stipulation that the scheme is for diesels when the OP has a petrol engined car?

It seems to be a Europe wide thing by vw to keep the EU happy. I think I read that Opel will be doing it too.

Is the new VAG scheme offering only scrappage or trade-in and scrappage value?

Opel here in NL are offering trade-in and €2000 extra, €250 worth of accessories and €500 of fuel. But then you need to buy an Opel :pac:

Don't know if they'll actually scrap the cars. That'd tell you if they're giving extra for more valuable cars or not.

BMW, Hyundai and the likes are doing it in the UK too, I'd imagine it will follow suit here for 181.

Hyundai are doing scrappage for a good while now. I don't know how they sell cars when those offers aren't on.

No, it can be any diesel car or any van from any make registered before 2011.

The stipulation is to buy one of their cars (obviously)

Its really a marketing programme - might be worth a few hundred more than a haggled discount

Yes the €6500 figure is against a Q7 or something.

Whereas with the Government scrappage you could haggle a discount as well as getting the scrappage.

Seeing as how others are going off on a tangent.

I'd say they'll only give you scrap metal weight on it so in and around €150.

You'd be better off listing in on done deal for €500 and list the issues and be prepared to settle for less.

With cars there are currently two discounts with many marques.

1 - the traditional discount you haggle with the dealer. Can be anything from a few hundred to a few thousand depending on the car, the model and the popularity.

    2. The discount from the marque itself. Some like Mercedes-Benz and opel offer straight percentage discount others offer low interest rates others offer scrappage.

The vw promo is probably replacing their subsidised interest rate deal.

Has to be a Euro 4 or less too?
