    hey lads.

heading up north with the intent of buying a car this weekend.

    3 questions:

1Do you get a grace period for getting the VRT sorted or do you have to do it there and then?

    2. I have the money in my account to buy the car outright.
Do i need any documentation going up north? ID, proof of address?

3 will i get the car straight away if i buy or does it take time for a bank transfer to go through etc?

    1. All information about registering an imported car is in plenty of threads on here and on the Revenue website. You have 7 days upon bringing the car into the country to book a VRT inspection with the NCT. You have 30 days from bringing the car into the country, to pay the VRT and complete the registration process, ie transfer it over to Irish plates.

    2. Check with the seller on how they want to accept payment and arrange this prior to heading up North.

    3. Bank transfers can take from a few hours to a few days depending on how fast both banks are. Might be best to arrange an alternative and faster method of payment with the seller if you want to do it in the same day. Different methods will induce different costs.
