Spending money - Albufeira

    Hi,

My self and my boyfriend are heading to Albufeira shortly. I've only been on one sun holiday when I was 11 so obviously my parents looked after the spending department. My boyfriend is the same, he only went on holidays as a child. We are trying to figure out what we would need spend wise.

Not planning on doing many excursions but that might change once we arrive there.

We will arrive in Portugal at 20.15 on Sunday night and will be back in Dublin for 11.30 the following week, so realistically we'll only be there for 5 full days.

Would anyone know in and around how much you would bring for that length of time or just an estimate really.

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Suppose €100 each per day would be loads.

When You mean bring, do you mean actual cash?
You can use your ATM card over there in case you didn't know.

I'm there at the minute really depends on what you want to do, excursions are in or around 20-60 euro that's including, trips to sevilla 20 euro, Gibraltar 16 euro, para sailing 35 euro. Those new flying water things 60 and the water parks about 25 each with transport.

Meals are about 30 each with a couple of drinks starter and dessert, most places are about 18 for steak, chicken is about 11.50 drinks at a meal for a large beer is 3.50 same for a glass of wine, but happy hour runs all day till about 7 meals are cheaper drinks are usually between 1,80 to 2.50 for a large beer, cocktails are a fiver in happy hour.

Wine and beer are extremely cheap in the super market maybe 8 euro a bottle of wine, a euro for a bottle of desperado, most local beers are 4 for 4 and the like. Malibu, captain morgans and vodka are about 15 for a litre.

Can't really think of anything else now but any questions I can have a look round for you.

€100 day I could feed the wife and myself on that for the week ,
if you are self catering head to the lidl there at the start and stock up for the week , fruit and veg really cheap there ,
if you are eating out every day you would nedd the €100 a day as some of the restaurants can be expensive enough ,

enjoy your trip its a great place , I love going to Portugal but we normally head to the silver coast now as its way cheaper and not as hot and quieter .

I'm just back from there, we had breakfast included in the hotel cost. To be comfortable, we needed to budget €100-€150 per day to cover two meals, drinks and activities.

Little recommendation: do the Dolphin's Driven boat trip. It was worth every penny. If you do it, wear swinwear under your clothes. Time permitting, you get to take a dip in the sea off the boat!

Is there any decent sports bars around? There's a couple of Liverpool games on the week we're there!

Yep, my husband caught a few Liverpool games himself over there! ;) There's a few rough sport bars but if you are staying near the strip, there's a nice one on a quiet street near the strip called 33 Sports Bar. The street is Rua Alexandre Herculano, just google it! Literally a five minute walk from the strip but much quieter. We found it by accident while eating at a restaurant beside it.

€50 each for food for the week. Bet she can't wait for the next holiday you bring her on!

You could try Coconuts at top of strip - cross over heading towards Montenchro

90% of bars will have the games on, the new town strip has a lot of good ones, all showing the games, it'll probably be a matter of which you choose rather than trying to find one

I'd also recommend the Old Town, alot nicer than the new town where the strip is located. Just as much choice for food and drinks (just less tacky) and about a 10/15 minute walk or so if I remember correctly from the new town.

I can imagine me trying to get away with that with my wifey, first day there, glorious weather, nice pool and she says "Shall we go and sit by the pool for the morning?"

"Nah love, we're going shopping to Lidl, pick up some quality bargains that we don't need in the tat aisle"

Me nuts would be kicked up to me throat

I hated the Old Town, thought it was every bit as tacky as the strip in its own way. I avoided them both.

It's a good 30 minute walk from the strip too.

Well, it may not have been in lidl but did go to the local supermarket a few times throughout the week!!

Thanks for the advice guys, had a brilliant time and ended up under the 100 euro mark most days ☺

The Intermarché? I haunted that place, was very handy. :)

Hope the weather was good. Did you get to take a boat trip in the end?
