Phonewatch

I have been offered free GSM add-on to existing Simon 3 alarm system (old system) and reduced monitoring cost by Phonewatch (I was considering leaving them as monitoring cost is €43.49pm!).

Does anyone know whether add-on of GSM will "convert" my old panel to "new system" (preventing me from switching monitoring in the future)?

    Thanks

I would suggest that you have a good read of their terms and conditions.

I bet they are doing this for a very good reason, usually to their benefit more than yours

Any offer you accept will be tying you into some form of contract with them .

Shop around . You will get plenty of companies to switch that to GSM for less.

I am still paying same price since I was with them when I first signed up 5 years ago did u get free monitors with package when u signed up any way it's in the policy it's 12 months rolling contract u a free to switch to different provider at end of contract keep Eye out for end of contract by law they can't keep you once contract is up same with Vodaphone and any other service provider.

If you accept an upgrade offer to their new system the contract is irrelevant. The system remains the property of phonewatch and can not be used standalone or any other company.

The GSM itself wont prevent you from switching, just watch how long they want to sign you up for to get the free GSM.

Does anyone know if its possible to sign up to Phonewatch, cancel after a year and then just keep the equipment as a normal alarm afterwards?

In my head it makes more sense just to have a normal alarm and then get a Nest indoor camera which will notify you directly if there's an intrusion. Not sure if normal alarms can be remotely turned on/off remotely these days.

    No.
Firstly its not your equipment your only renting it.
Secondly their equipment is locked to them . No one else can repair , replace or service it.

What makes more sense is to keep away from it.Read through this forum & you will see plenty of peoples experiences with them.

Have a read of my experience with Phonewatch and you will see what they are willing to stoop to.

If you don't have time, read the last few pages of the thread.
