And back to back we are at Italy in Monza, where Ferrari has won most races, but not since 2010, so will Vettel be able to break the spell and push ahead of Mercedes again.

    DIfbEPkW0AEnm4P.jpg:small

    TV Times with lights out
Friday Grand Prix first practice live Sky Sports F1 09:00
Friday Grand Prix second practice live Sky Sports F1 13:00
Saturday Grand Prix third practice live Sky Sports F1 10:00
Saturday Grand Prix qualifying live Sky Sports F1 13:00
Sunday Grand Prix live Sky Sports F1 13:00

    Talking Points:
On the power track, Mercedes might be secure for pole, but in the race Ferrari seems to be stronger atm. On the flip side, overtaking is very rare at Monza even with DRS.
Rain is forecast for Friday and Saturday, but not for Sunday.
Honda - TorroRosso - Alonso what will happen?

Both Force India drivers in the first drivers press conference, with Vettel the man in the middle. Might make for an interesting presser.

It only live on Sky Sports unfortunately this weekend the rest off us will have to make do with the highlights n C4. Means this thread will no doubt be quieter than when the race is live on both stations.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Don't forget it's also on eirsport...Got broadband with eir? get the eirsport app!

ah FML I went to the channel 4 tv guide and there you can click on Sunday and there you see race live and it is only from SPA.

Looking at the listing though, looks like Eir aren't showing qualifying live. Everything else is live though. It's an odd one because there isn't anything else live on the channel then.

    This too shall pass.

Top ten at race start will be very different , Max and Danny Ric 15 and 20 place penalties .

"The exact details of the penalty have not been officially confirmed, but it is likely Ricciardo will be penalised 20 places and Verstappen 15 because the Australian had used more parts before this race and so is hit differently by F1's complex engine penalty system."
    http://www.bbc.com/sport/formula1/41122304

That system has to go , maybe at Monza it might give some over takes as they make their way up

    FP2

Sainz had a engine failure so I assume he has Penalty tomorrow.

Was surprising (in a nice way) to see the B194 retaining (most of) the Mild Seven livery at Spa.

I'm disappointed Renault are off the pace so far. Big chance for the Hulk with the Red Bull penalites. Hulk is looking to avoid tying Adrian Sutil for Most Grand Prix starts without a podium this weekend :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,708 ✭✭✭Charlie-Bravo

I think Hulk will need to wait until next year, and an improve Renault engine, along with one of those odd-ball races with rain or something to get him the long awaited podium.

I think his form/luck is much better though. His races lately have been quite good avoiding incidents. Touch wood.

So for this weekend, what do you reckon...Ham, Bot, Vet?

Track very wet this morning, delaying FP3, hope it okay for later

Complete washout. Tempted to sit and look at nothing for the hour, then choose the competition thread votes.

Just noticed the new kerb installed at Parabolically after FP2. That could launch a car so definitely a deterrent to running wide.

Running now, hopefully a full wet qualifying, will mix up the grid a bit and will give a better view on driveability of engine and car.

It was bound to happen as soon as they put tarmac at the runoff area there. Fellas were using it to get extra speed out of corner exit.

More Penalties ...Hulk and Palmer ......

why even take part in qualifing .

Still raining out there but the session will go ahead. Let's hope these "best 20 drivers" keep it out of the grass.

    This too shall pass.

Both Renault's now with 10 place grid penalties for new MGU-H. Bit of a farce, now 6 guys with grid penalties.

On the plus side weather looks proper changeable. Session should be interesting indeed

How would you limit engine and component usage, without any punishment effecting race position? If you fine the team money they'll just look to absorb that cost in order for the driver to have peak performance at all times. Sure, great for the viewer but you may as well just do away with component limits at that point (which in itself is a valid argument)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,904 ✭✭✭✭skipper_G

Just as I said to myself I'm amazed they left them out there, Grosjean into the barrier and red flag out.

He got a little wobble and then lifted, went back on the throttle and lost it completely.

Lucky he didn't have more than a glancing blow to the barrier, could have been much worst accident

Getting some coffee that will be a long session

I'm no expert but if it's just the wheels and nose that took the brunt of that spin they might be able to fix that.

    This too shall pass.

I tend to agree with this, the gap between the haves and have nots is pretty huge already. If you remove grid penalties nothing to stop Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull spending piles of cash for new everything every weekend. They need to find a better solution, preferably including implementation of cost controls.

He is not coming back unsupported to the pits so he is out of qualifying. Big chance for Sauber or any back marker to start far up the order.

If the F1 decide the conditions aren't safe to go out do the times set stand ?

Not sure, I doubt it because not everyone got across the line before the flag came out so how would you classify them?

They would push it out to the latest, so approximately 1800 then cancel and have a qualifying tomorrow morning. If that doesn't work, free practice 3 but as this was rained out championship standings

Is the banking at monza still used ? It looks in good condition so I'm assuming it's still used.

Vettel mentioned yesterday that they were expecting this rain on Friday and that if it happened today that they might have to do qualifying on Sunday morning.

K-Mag looks pretty chilled in his cockpit!

Competitively, no. But they do wheel out slow speed demonstration drives like with Lewis and Sir Sterling Moss a couple of years ago.

    This too shall pass.

Safety car wobbled at the rear there coming out of the 2nd Lesmo. Might be a while yet.

PC bull. Another 15 min delay and track has dried considerably since Grosjean pushed too hard.

Would it be possible to put the cars on the track at a reduced speed to clear the line?
Surely be quicker than brushing it

No team would donate their tyre allocation, risk their cars, etc.

Ben Edwards just came up with a good plan, use the helicopter rotors.

It was resurfaced a couple years ago if I remember correctly. For preservation reasons I would assume rather than competitive racing.

Let the Italians have an impromptu track day - though they might end up spending a lot more time cleaning up the debris.
