Entitled to any assistance?

    Hello,

I've been working 3 days a week for the last week and getting casual payment. This evening my boss informed me that my hours will be spread over 5 days. A total of 20 hours. Does this mean I will lose all assistance?

    Thanks

If were on Long term Jobseeker's Allowance prior to starting this job you can apply for a Part-time Job Incentive Payment. You can only work under 24 hour's a week but if single would receive about 119 a week.

Hmm I should have been on this in the first place! Social welfare told me I must use casual dockets. I was getting 84 a week. This is my first job in 5 years so I certainly met the criteria for that scheme.

I was supposed to be full time by now, but work has been progressing slower than management hoped. They reckon I'll have 25 hours soon, but I'm not sure if I can stick around. I was breaking even with the 84 a week, it was paying a chunk of my rent so don't know what to do. Cheers for the info!

While I'm here, I'm basically renting my room of a lady by just giving her cash. No lease or anything. I take it that's not ideal for rent supplement?

You are correct. Putting it bluntly, you haven't much hope of getting RS or HAP in that situation! Indeed, your 'landlady' probably isn't even registered with the RTB.

Sorry lads but regard to the part time incentive scheme do you have to consistently work less than 24 hours a week or can you claim for the weeks that you haven't?

The nature of my job is that if a client doesn't turn up, I don't get paid. There's potential that I'd have 25 or 26 hours but at the moment that hasnt happened. In the event that it happened could I let them know and take no payment for just that week or is that simply unsuitable for the scheme?
