Planning a trip to Boston with Norwegian Airlines, staying 6 days, can someone suggest an area that would be very accessible from this airport and worthy of 6 days visit. Thought about heading towards Martha's vineyard direction (presume this area would be quite expensive), if this isn't an option, any other suggestions would be appreciated, will not be hiring a car so access to trains/bus routes essential. Flying in on Sunday, flying out on Saturday.

Naragansat, block island Misquamicut beach, south Kingston, Bristol, western all In RI. RI is a great state with lots to see and do, Water fire in Providence is great if it is on when you are there Martha's Vineyard is very seasonal so if you go off season it can be quiet.

Planning maybe last week of September. As we don't plan on hiring a car, any advice on where to stay for the week where we could access these areas by public transport and also easy access to Providence airport or should we stay in Providence?

Train station in central providence right beside the state house links to Naragansat I think? Not 100% bus station is over beside 95 -'s is called Peter Pan bus teminal 😂😂😂

Not sure about public transport to be honest as never used it much there but there is bus services to most places

Newport is an obvious possibility, playground of the rich and shameless during the summer, large yachting/naval heritage. Much reduced facilities in winter but I imagine much still open in September - I've been there at Halloween. First gaslit street in North America, oldest tavern, next parish is Dingle or Achill. Lots of old mansions, tennis headquarters, nearby naval bases/museums etc.

Spent a summer in Newport a number of years ago and can vouch for the place. Regular local bus service between there and Providence. Plenty to see including the mansions, do the cliff walk and enjoy the bars/restaurants all over the town. Also worth considering a trip out to Cape Cod, Block Island, Nantucket or Marthas Vineyard as others have suggested. Very nice part of the US.

Without a car, a lot of the suggested locations would be very difficult to rech. You can hop on a commuter train right at Providence Airport and head right for Boston......plenty to keep you going for 6 days up there (and in the surrounding suburbs which are accessible via public transport)

Thanks so much, this might be a better option for us. Any recommendations of where to stay in Boston? Would like to make a trip to Martha's vineyard? Is it worth a trip and maybe staying a night on island?

IMHO a day trip to Marthas Vineyard in the Fall would not be worth it....its more of a Summer vacation spot. People who go off season, go for peace and quiet.

Boston is a small city and is easy to get around. You can pretty much walk from one end of the downtown area to the other in under an hour. I dont know what your price range is, but let me know what youre interested in and I will recommend some general neighborhoods. I have never done Airbnb in Boston, but some friends rented a place in the South End and loved it
