Taylormade Fitting - Tips?

Taylormade Fitting tonight at my home course.

My aim is to test out their irons and settle on something. (will also be trying out mizuno and titleist at a later date).

Looking through internet/youtube at reviews and i'm leaning towards the P770 if i can hit them well. My current clubs are graphite cleveland SGI irons (£200 at time of purchase) and i think i need to invest in something stiffer.

I have around £350 on the account and would spend up to £1000 on the P770s if they are the right fit.

This is my first time getting fit for clubs, is there any non-obvious questions i should be asking?
Has anyone demoed (or currently use) any of the current TM range? I'd like to know your thoughts on the various sets, M1 M2 P series etc.
    Can i mix the set e.g. 4 and 5 irons in P790 and 6-PW in P770s?

I recently got fitted for a new set of irons. I would advise against getting tunnel vision about a particular brand/set. Hit every iron that you can and go with the ones that you like and that give you favourable figures for what you want.

I went into the fitting determined to get a set of Ping G irons. I had read all the reviews and watched all the videos and thought that they were the ones for me. After hitting almost every iron in the shop, I ended up with a set of Srixon 565s. With my swing, their numbers were much better than the Pings. I want an iron to go a certain distance and stop and the Srixons gave me that. For me, the Pings launched lower and didn’t spin as much. My point is not to get too hung up on a brand or its ‘tech’ – let the figures to the talking.

This is possibly less relevant given its a fitting but my issue with TM on a whole is the frequency with which they bring out new lines.

Their stuff has a relatively short shelf life compared with other brands and their value tends to plummet relatively quick.

If given the choice of manufacturers they would not be a choice for me unless there was a relatively substantial difference in performance/personal preference.

funny enough i rang another local guy about a fitting. asked about the P770s but he said i was the first person to enquire about them and he doesn't have any demo heads. He then went onto speak highly of the srixon models especially the 565 you have. He said they would be at the lower end of the GI irons in terms of forgiveness and may suit me.

The other interesting thing is i can mix and match their iron series. maybe go for 765 in the lower irons.

Pity he doesn't have mizuno and TM, would love to try all clubs.

    .

I have been thinking long and hard about those recently too. I'm gonna wait till i get a look at the new AP1's and AP3's before i decide what to do. But i really like the look of the 565's/765's. A combo set in either could be a good option.

I absolutely love mine, couldn't say enough good things about them. They way they look, play, sound and feel are fantastic. Plus Srixon offer any shaft & and grip included in the price which make them very good value.

I bought a set of Srixon 545s. Previously had a set of Callaway cf16s and definitely prefer the Srixon.

Callaways won on softness and probably ability to shape a shot at the range but Srixon were far more consistent and imo (perhaps biased) is the best looking non blade iron around.

Are the head sizes small, what irons would you compare them to size wise. Its months ago since i seen them and can't rem their sizes. I've read different reports on line, one guy says they are the size of G30's and someone else says they are quite small. I remember them as being smallish.

yeah, the list of shafts and grips available is very extensive.

what's your handicap and how is your iron striking?

The reason i want forged is that my current clubs are cast and graphite so even when i hit a shot where i don't get anywhere near the correct distance, it still feels good! I want to know the difference and hopefully improve my striking. 5 handicap but my driving and chipping/putting got me there!

The RSi's. Pieces of absolute muck. You probably can't get them new any more, they were dropped like a hot potatoe from the TM range.

    Love the M2's though.

There's a taylormade demo day coming up here shortly if you want me to let you know about it.

I'm off 16 at the minute, have dropped two shots since getting the 565s. I feel they have really helped my game, I'm a heck of a lot more consistent with these irons than my previous set. They are also forgiving, my bad shot is always out of the toe and they cope surprisingly well with such shots.

Completely agree if what Ive been told by two pros in that the 565s and 545s are very similar.
I picked mine up on onlinegolf.co.uk used for 300e ridiculous value.
If you in the market to save a few quid, gauging what you want from a fitting and buying from the UK could save quite a bit

I've been hovering around that handicap for over 30 years, like you it was more down to short game.
I recently moved from 28 year old ping eye 2's to TM Tour PSI.
My first reason for changing was because one of the shafts eventually snapped and I couldn't replace. But I also felt a need for a change by then too.
So, I trialled lots in the range with a mindset on getting AP2s, but, PSI just gave me the best feedback overall and the misses weren't as bad.
Mind you, I can still hit some awful shots with them, but the good ones really feel great. And overall I'm more than happy with them and have no desire to change them for years.

tested the p770s tonight in dynamic gold superlight, 88 mph ss with 7 iron, think it was S flex shaft.
I hit the club well and it seemed quite forgiving.
Felt great and look so good!!!
Waiting on the full specs and price now.
