Looking forward to the big kick off this weekend, some really intriguing games in the first couple of weeks.

I'm nailing my colours to the mast this year and all i'll say is #Hook'em

Going to see the Texas Longhorns v Oklahoma State Cowboys in Austin in October (weather permitting) so can't wait for that.

I think Tulsa and Oklahoma State will be the pick of the games tonight. Expecting well in excess of 60/70 points in this one. I'll probably be watching that one.

ASU just unveiled a Pat Tillman statue:

I presume most people know Tillman's story but his documentary is a must watch: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1568334/

This is my first year with an IPTV subscription that has all the US channels, and I have to say even on a Thursday slate it's great being able to switch between pretty much every game that's on. Don't know how I managed without it.

I don't know if I've ever seen a long snapper score a TD before

Bad start for the Longhorns, down 21-7 already.

This Mizzu / Mizzu State game is crazy.

48-35, and there's still time left in the second quarter.

Notre Dame make some slick propaganda for nbc pregame shows. Basically a half hour advert for the University masquerading as a history of the stadium. Leni Riefenstahl would be happy with it.

First half of South Carolina at NC State was fantastic. Will be keeping an eye on the second half during the USC game. The Darnold era resumes in 30 minutes on PAC12 Network.

Florida offense cannot get anything going against Michigan.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,443 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Nice big win to start the season for the Irish tonight but the whole way through I just couldn't help but feel that this offense will suffer when faced with a real good defense. I'm just not sure about Wimbush at all, he ran around a few times tonight and escaped from trouble but he took a lot of hits too. Offensive line wasn't so good obviously but a lot of the problems were down to Wimbush himself.

I watched Clemson earlier and they looked impressive.

Next up for me is the big one of the day. I think Alabama are going win this one quite easily as I expect to see them at their best after losing the big game last season and I'm expecting the Seminoles to regress a fair bit this season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,003 ✭✭✭✭Realt Dearg Sec

I agree about Notre Dame but Wimbush is, to be fair, staring for his first time ever, and he'll have plenty scope for improvement. I'm reserving my judgment, thought they looked shaky at times but never anything but in control ultimately. Bigger challenges ahead as you say.

He's played fairly well to be honest, the interceptions weren't really on him. The offence around him hasn't been great with the exception of Ronald Jones and Stephen Carr. Though not a great advertisement for someone to lift a failing Jets / 49ers offence next year. Still think Mason Rudolph will be the #1 overall pick anyway - I'm fed up of predicting what USC quarterbacks will do in the NFL.

All that aside, it's a cracking game. 28-28 midway through the 4th.

There's a Heisman candidate on this team..... and I'm not talking about Darnold! RoJo with his 3rd of the day.

HAS to be interference there in the endzone on Bama. Poor call.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,443 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Yeah Bama got away with PI there in the end zone. Sayban didn't sound like a happy camper at half time so those guys care gonna get it from him during thy be break.

I've been keeping an eye on Louisville and its not going well for them.

    Are you ready for this?

Liberty are three points up on Baylor and they have the ball with two minutes left in the fourth quarter.

Bama D and ST's were pretty awesome tonight. Their offense might not be that great, I'm not a huge fan of Jalen Hurts either.

To be fair the Seminoles D did loom very good but Francois didn't have a good night and left the game with what looks like a serious enough knee injury.

So the biggest point-spread upset in college football history went down last night, as Howard (45 point underdogs) beat UNLV 43-40.

Howard's QB is Cam Newton's brother.

Colorado State lost 17-3 to Colorado, but the game was filled with controversy - mainly re: calls going against Colorado State. They had 2 TDs called back, and several other completions called back for a variety of holding and offensive pass interference calls. None of the catches in the below GIF were allowed. Fans through rubbish onto the field in protest.

I can't remember which game it was, I was flicking around at the time, but in one game a flag was thrown for a false start and the referee calls it 'False start, everyone except the center.'

Well if you can watch a repeat of A&M and UCLA, it was probably one of the games of the season already. Rosen with the fake spike to win it. Sensational game, all called by Gus Johnson.

That fake spike was sensational. Rosen draft stock has risen exponentially after that game.

Well – that was worth waiting for. A brilliant week 1.

The big powers like Bama, Ohio, Clemson, Oklahoma and Michigan looked as advertised.
Then the recent also rans showed real promise. Such as LSU, Auburn, Penn State.
Then there was just the usual ridiculous comebacks and back and forths along with humiliating upsets.
From the games I’ve seen so far (I was away). LSU looked really really good, much sharper offense and a ridiculous D. I think they’re a huge force this season. Its all about beating Bama for them. Bama looked decent, the offense struggled but it was against a top defense. They won on limiting mistakes and Special teams, typical Saban.

The SEC looks very strong this season. The West in particular looks stupidly strong, on the East, Georgia look sneaky good with either QB’s playing. It’ll be interesting to see them play Notre Dame and see how they level up.
Also, special mention to Lamar Jackson… He looked very good from the highlights. I’m interested in seeing if he improves on his finish to last season.

How are people feeling about week 2. Some incredible matchups to look forward to. I like Oklahoma for some reason vs Ohio and I genuinely can’t call the Clemson vs Auburn game. We’ll learn a lot from those two games.

I would have fancied Florida State to get themselves back in the mix for a playoff spot but looks like DeAndre Francois is out for the year. Big blow to their chances now.

Yeah, I can't see them navigating Louisville and Clemson. A tough blow for sure.

Just after watching that there. Is there any reason why he would have actually spiked it? The clock was stopped yeah? Surely the D should have spotted this no?

Once the ball is set, the clock starts running again so it made sense. You probably dont really want a college QB running a no huddle there with the game on the line the majority of the time.

Strange there's no game at 5pm this week though???

I'll watch the first hour of Clemson and Auburn and see how its chaping. The one that seems less interesting might go on my laptop so I can keep an eye on it. Two amazing Games. Shame about the scheduling.

I see both being very close....

Louisville are struggling to put away the Tar heels. Cardinals aren't as good on offense this year but the defense is awful. North Carolina just went for it on 4th and 2 at the Cards 30 and failed so Jackson will get the chance to make it a two score lead. I don't think we'll be seeing them late in the season in contention for the playoffs though.

Edit to add: Despite all the bad things I'm saying about Louisville I have to add that Jackson is superb, just a wonderful player and looks better in the pocket this year.

Tua getting snaps at QB for Bama, with Najee Harris in at RB.

2 of the most hyoed freshmen Bama have had in years, which is saying something. Be interesting to see how they pan out.
