    Hi All,
I would love some advice please. My husband will be finishing up work in 4 weeks due to redundancy.
We have never received social welfare before so no idea what our entitlements would be.
We are renting a house and the rent is €1,300 per month, I work and receive €500 net per week. We have 3 kids, no other income once my husband finishes at the end of Sept. He will receive a lump sum as redundancy.
Will he be entitled to any kind of allowance and/or rent allowance?

    Thanks in advance :-)

seriously, contact your local welfare office and they will give you all the information specific to your status, asking here on a public forum will only confuse things for you.

Redundancy - check that he's getting at least his full statutory entitlement:- "The statutory redundancy payment is a lump-sum payment based on the pay of the employee. Two weeks' pay for every year of service over the age of 16 and one further week's pay"
The amount of statutory redundancy is subject to a maximum earnings limit of €600 per week (€31,200 per year).

He should also make sure that he gets paid for any untaken leave that he's entitled to.

    Read this link:- http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employment/unemployment_and_redundancy/losing_your_job/losing_job_entitlements.html

Jobseekers Benefit: This isn't a means-tested payment, so your weekly wage doesn't come into it. Although it does mean that he won't be able to claim for you.

In summary, he should get €193 a week for himself, nothing for you and €29.80 weekly for each kid, if they're under 18.

    See this link: http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/social_welfare_payments/unemployed_people/jobseekers_benefit.html

Make sure that he gets his P45 and brings it to his local Social Welfare Office as soon as he has become unemployed - because until he has claimed JB, the DSP "clock" won't start running!

If he doesn't find employment then at the end of the year he should be eligible for a PAYE refund and possibly one for USC too.

Hopefully he'll find a new job shortly. But maybe you should investigate whether you can get on your local council's social housing list. You may not get a house, but if you get on the list than you'd be eligible for HAP.

Could be over the limit for social housing entitlements

Sorry for hijacking. Im in a similar situation. Im being made redundant in a few weeks. Im happy with the redundancy but is there ways to get onto placements or courses quickly or do you have to sit on the dole for months.

He won't get any payment for dependant children. He will just get the personal rate for himself.

He's entitled to sign on the day he leaves work despite any payments. they'll try to disuade him, but ignore & be persistant

My wrong! I completely overlooked his spouse's weekly earnings. Sorry about that, cosy.

Your husband will apply for Jobseeker's Benefit and as you are working you should apply for Family Income Supplement, Also I think you should look into applying for the Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance if your kids are attending school.

Fast tracking is possible but there is a wait to receive a payment depending on how much redundancy you received. Check here http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/social_welfare_payments/unemployed_people/jobseekers_benefit.html

    Education and training
After losing your job you may decide to return to education or vocational training, perhaps changing direction in your career. There is a wide range of education and training programmes offering full-time and part-time courses. The courses include Further Education and Training (FET)http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/education/vocational_education_and_training/fas_training_courses.html courses and courses provided by Education and Training Boards (ETBs). If you are on an unemployment payment you may be eligible for the Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme (VTOS)http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/education/returning_to_education/vocational_training_opportunities_scheme.html or the Back to Education Allowance http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/social_welfare_payments/back_to_education/back_to_education_allowance.html

Cheers Balgan. Im getting the guts of a years salary so im happy out. I have over 10 years of stamps there too so i don't think its means tested for a while. The wifes an accountant so she has all the tax things covered :D Just for me I have an IT qualification from about 10 years ago. Unfortunately 10 years ago there wasnt much use for it. In the mean time I started enjoying myself, got a mortgage, married, child. The job was handy and although i was on the look I never really had the will to leave. I figure now I'm 30, I've all that stuff done and want to change my career path. Are CE schemes finished? I would have loved to have the opportunity to gain experience through 1 of these. I don't want to go down the 3 year degree route. Are Intreo good to deal with if you show ambition? Basically I dont want to sit on the dole but I dont want to stack shelves for the sake of having a job

    Can anyone answer my query?

I applied and sent away social welfare forms a while back when I was unemployed. I haven't heard back yet as to weather I will be getting it.

Just recently I have gotten work and wish to cancel or end my claim.

How do i do this? Can it be done online ?
