Slimming World - II

There's a cafe in Newbridge that does a Slimming World menu - don't know if that's too far for you. However, most restaurants will have slimming world friendly options - have a look at the website and book for these options, and the syns associated with them. For example - in a chinese, Chicken with Black bean and steam rice would be 7.5 syns. A starter of hot and sour soup is 5 syns - so for that meal, you would still be within your daily syn allowance.

4.5 pound gain this week, have been slowly falling off the SW wagon.

Any advice on getting back on it?

I'm dreading tomorrow. I had a few days in Krakow and a very well celebrated birthday.

I know if I have only put on 4 lbs I'll be doing well.
This morning I just started again. Lots of speed. No crap.

I haven’t been to a meeting in 4 weeks and it looks like i’m up 5 according to my scales. Annoyed isn’t the word.

Lost 1.5lbs this week after a couple of weeks maintaining so I'm delighted. I have quite a few holidays coming up between now and the end of June (lucky me, I know!) so I know I won't be making any huge losses for a while. Will try to make this next week a good one! Just spent an hour in the kitchen making Slimming World-friendly cannelloni which I have high hopes for.

Was up 0.5lb this morn... I was a bit surprised, but not shocked! I’m going to try to do a couple of SP days this week!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 441 ✭✭Areas

I was down 1.5lbs this week. Delighted! I was at a wedding last Friday and I enjoyed myself with the dinner and dessert but I didn't go too mad on the alcohol. One more pound until I reach my 5 stone award. I've a hen party this weekend. I'm going to stick 100% on plan until then.

Well done @ Areas you are flying it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 441 ✭✭Areas

Thanks Val! I've a few challenging weeks ahead, hen party, 2 weeks on holidays, then another party, and then a music festival, but I'm focusing on how much I've done so far. Even on holiday I'm going to try and optimise and make good decisions. I've a wedding in May so I don't want to completely lose the run of myself over the next few weeks!

Week 48 up 1.5lbs after 2 weeks with my few days in Spain and wetting the shamrock when I came home! I won the greatest loser in my group but I feel I'm gone a little off track when I am so near my goal. I have not been following plan 100% just sort of maintaining.

I'm aiming for a 2lb loss next week and would love to reach my target on my first anniversary ( in 4 weeks time)

I've been messing about now since January!!!

5.5lbs to get to target, 69.5lbs lost so far. Any words of advice to get me back on track I would love to hear from you!

    Onwards and downwards!! Val

Up just two pounds. Feel like I dodged a bullet considering the amount of eating out and carrying on I did. Hoping for next week to get back to actual loss. Yoyoing a bit over the same four pounds at the moment.

AFAIK it is, but with a syn or two for the sauce, depending on how much you lash on. Plus sides, which have some sneaky syns.

No sauce - she keeps it plain :D

Spicy rice 2 syns per portion :pac: although we do get looked at weirdly when we order just 4 spicy rice and none of the other tasty tasty sides!? :(

The corn on the cob is free (if you don't use the butter), as is the side salad.
The spicy rice is tasty though!

Down 2.5 & got slimmer of the week :)
4.5 to get back to target... hopeful I will manage it before my hols in 5 weeks.

Down 2 pounds this week. I’m happy with it but going to have to have my wits about me over Easter with so much chocolate around.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 441 ✭✭Areas

I've my weigh in this evening, I know I shouldn't be trying to guess what it's going to be but I'm expecting a gain! I had a hen party this weekend and I went all out on the cocktails and I enjoyed a 3 course meal. I'm back on it now for a few days before I go on holidays. I'm going to Boston for 2 weeks but I don't plan on completely losing the run of myself when I'm over there. The thought of that 5 stone sticker being just a pound away might help keep me on track!

Please help! I need to get back on the horse, but failing miserably!

I'm looking for quick dinner and lunch ideas. And most importantly SNACKS! Is there a syn free humus in the world anywhere?

Missed group last week as I was away over Easter. Ate all around me last weekend but tried to limit the damage by doing three SP days this week. Down a pound which was nothing short of miraculous and aiming for 2.5 pounds this week.

The last month or so I have been going between two groups, my friend joined her local one & I said I would visit her group every other week for moral support. I don't want to change as I much prefer my own group, the leader is much nicer & its a bit of craic.
Anyway, I have noticed that every time I go to my friends group I am up & when I go to my own I am down!
I weighed myself yesterday & figured I should have been down a pound or at the very least 0.5 when I weigh in group (I was 1lb less than my home weigh the week before)
Got to group & I was up a half!!

    The last 5 weeks
    1st wk - Visiting - Maintain
    2nd - Own - Down 2.5
    3rd - Visiting - Up 0.5
    4th - Own - Down 1
    5th - Visiting - up 0.5

After doing SW for best part of the last year I had pretty much figured out if I would have a gain or loss but having a sneaky weigh before. (I know my own scales is consistent as I weigh a 20lb kettlebell for accuracy each time I use it)

I know it could very well just be a coincidence but it made me think, Does anyone else visit other groups & do you find a difference?

I'm just back from a 2 weeks holiday in Boston where I ate and drank all around me! I'm happy though. Before leaving I was one pound off my 5 stone award. I've been back on track since the second I landed in the airport. Looking forward to seeing that shiny 5 stone award on my book in a few weeks!

I go to my regular group 99% of the time, the very odd time I go to a different group I will be up, regardless of how ‘good’ I’ve been. It does be on a different day but the same time- which I assume your the same?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 441 ✭✭Areas

If anyone is in the Galway area: A member from my group is on page 64 of the Galway advertiser. I think you can read it online as well. He's on page 64. He has lost over 13 stone since joining in January 2017.

    Yep, Same time, different day.
I wear the same clothes on weigh-day & I have the same lunch.
I always weigh at home before so I have an idea of what to expect... I was quite pissed off after the last weigh in because I was expecting to be down, I know if it had of been my own group I would have been.

Week 51 UP 3.5lbs Only followed it 100% for 3 out of 14 days. Guys I'm really struggling last few weeks I'm just not in the right mindset . I didn't do any exercise in 2 weeks either which didn't help, felt I was going back to my old bad ways ( red wine at home , buying crisps chocolate etc). Been back on plan since Monday including walking so fingers crossed I can do this..

8lbs to get to target, 67 lost so far. Onwards and downwards!! Val

Val you've done amazing so far! I've been following you on this for a while and you've kept me going. Imagine yourself 67 pounds ago! And now only 8 pounds left to target. That's some achievement!!!
You've been on plan since Monday so nothing stooping you being on plan for the rest of the week and in to the weekend!
    Keep going!!!!

Thank you Areas for your kind words, you are doing amazing yourself , well done

I suppose I've forgotten how far I have come ! I know the plan works if you put in the work!

Veg soup just made I freeze in batches plus 8,000 steps done for 2 short walks. No alcohol or going out this weekend so hope to make good choices until next weigh in . Summer is coming ( fingers crossed) and I want to be able to wear some nice summer clothes rather than covering myself up. I will keep you posted.

Put a before pic of yourself on the fridge, right at eye level! Or go buy yourself something new to wear that is a little tight, hang it on the outside of the wardrobe!

Thank you Sinister Kid that's a great idea ( now to find a photo) as I usually found ways of getting out of having them taken as I was so self conscious of my weight !

    Hi all

Thinking of joining SW, been looking for something to give me the motivation to shift some weight.  Got in shape for my wedding 2 years ago, all the good work has been undone, plus over the past 6 months bought a house so a lot of stresses which led to bad eating habits.  Generally try to eat good (weekly shop would contain a lot of lean meat and fruit/veg to cooks meals from scratch), but I am fond of a take away and I do let myself down at lunch time.

Had thought of this for a while and when I got home last night there was a leaflet in the door for the local meeting (Swords), so I am taking this a sign!

I know this is going to sound stupid, but I am wondering are the many males (I am a 36 year old bloke!) on this thread that attend and how do they find it?  My impression of SW (through my sister and wife's friends previously attending) is that more than likely all female classes, I normally wouldn't be embarrassed about anything but for some reason I feel nervous about this with being publicly weighed and talking etc!!  Its not that I am obese or anything, weighed in at 16.5 stone last weekend, would love to get down to about 14 or under.    The missus said she would join too and we give it a go together.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

You are weighed off to the side so nobody sees it but you! Nobody else knows your weight.
The consultant will go around the room & ask everyone how they are getting on but if you don't want her to ask you just say it when you are checking in.
After a few weeks you will probably want to shout about how much you have lost!! Men generally tend to have much better losses :D

Each group is different, I've been to some that have been boring as hell...
My regular group has a few solo male members & a few husband & wife combos. I think it adds a nice mix to the group.
My advice would to be to go to one of the bigger groups, which you will probably only find by asking around or trying a few groups out.
Just remember, not all groups are equal!! If you aren't comfortable or just not feelin it, try a different one... It took me a few tries to find the one I like!

On the note of lunches, preparation it the key. Make lunch the night before & bring it with you or make extra (SW friendly) dinner & keep the leftovers for lunch.
The plan is very simple to follow, it just requires a bit of thought & preparation. Little things make a difference, I always make sure I have a stash of free or speed foods in the press in work so I am less inclined to pop across to the shop & buy junk!

    Goodluck :D

You really should only weigh yourself (if you aren’t going to a group?) on the same day and time each week- you will drive yourself crazy hopping on the scales.
If you are up a pound by tomorrow all I’ll say is that it can take the body a week or so to adjust, it depends on the individual.. Have you done SW before?

Hey - many thanks for the offer, I am going to attend the local one this week, logistically (with working in town and by the time I get home etc), it suits me the best.  Going to go into it with an open mind and positive attitude!  Again, thanks for the offer though, really appreciate it.

Good luck with it w/s/p/c/, there are a fair few men at my group. It's still mostly women so I'm not going to pretend it's an even balance. But everyone is really friendly, all supportive and we're all there for the same reason regardless of gender, age, size, etc. Hope you enjoy it. I'm still a relative newbie and joined around 6 weeks ago but I'm really enjoying it and seeing great results.

After my 2 weeks in Boston and a cocktail laden BBQ at the weekend I'm expecting a good gain today! From last November I knew that March, April and May would be tough for me (2 holidays, a hen party, a BBQ and 2 weddings) all a few weeks apart. But I'm staying on plan during the week and when I'm not abroad. I'm going to keep going to group through it all. The last wedding will be on May 12th and I'm really looking forward to then focusing in on my target. 5 stone lost, 2 to go!

If you've already been eating well and cutting out the crap, you may not notice as much loss as someone who has been lorrying into takeaways a few times a week.

That’s very true. I do weigh in and I can see those that had ate all around them on the run up to joining SW, they have a huge loss the following week!
