Has anyone ever done SW online before and how have they found it?
I've been to group lots but due to working away from home I can't commit to the same group weekly and I need the weigh-in to at least keep me where I am. I still have my books etc

I bought some hi-fi bars today. I’ve always bypassed them previously, but they’re yum!

I also went after I weighed in, and picked out a beautiful present for myself. I’ve promised myself that when I get my stone award, I will buy it!

    Hi all,

I joined SW at the weekend. First time ever joining a slimming group and so far I'm really enjoying it. I'm kind of amazed at how much I can eat and also how it forces me to be more thoughtful about what I eat. Yesterday, I was having a fairly lazy day at home. I had been up early so was hungry for lunch around noon. Before, I would have been really lazy and made something like a toasted cheese sandwich and then been hungry throughout the afternoon and spent the day picking at things. Instead in pretty much the same time it would have taken me to make the sandwich, I had a few boiled baby potatoes, a scrambled egg, beans, wilted spinach, mushrooms and cherry tomatoes sauteed in fry light. I couldn't believe how much I could eat, how tasty everything was and how full I felt afterwards. I was full right up until dinnertime, never felt hungry, never wanted to snack.

My target is 2.5 stone. I don't care how slow it comes off me. If its a half pound per week, I'll be happy as long as the scales are going down rather the creeping up up up they've been doing for the last few years.

I was up last week. a massive gain of 3.5 pounds. Can't remember if I posted. I've landed myself with a bulging disc, and a combination of feeling sorry for myself, inactivity and painkillers that messed with my digestive system and bloating led me to that. So this week I did SP and followed it 100%. I'm still not moving around much because my back is still quite tender but I did up my water intake and my speed food. I've discovered overnight oats and that I really like apples! I have my weigh in this evening and really hoping to see that 3.5lb gain gone.

Have been going to slimming world since October. Had lost 12 pounds but gained three at my last weigh in which was pretty devastating. Still, it had been a pretty indulgent birthday week so what can I expect!

Going to weigh in today and hoping to see most of it back off again after a week on plan.

Stick to the plan and it will fly off you.
Plenty fruit and veg and planning your meals is key. No 'Oh I don't know what I'll have for dinner, so I'll ring a takeaway'.

That said, you can still eat out on it. It's about making informed choices.

My gf is doing SW at the moment so when we're in mine on the weekend I make sure I cook SW stuff.

We had two 5% beef burgers, two beef medallions, homemade garlic sauce (fat free yogurt), tablespoon of Chef Reduced Sugar & Salt Ketchup, SW chips (oven). We used the Brennans Be Good Wholemeal Sandwich Breads thinking they were low syn, turns out they aren't. Do people have an alternative and where to buy?

Fair play to you for making the effort to help keep your girlfriend on track :)

You can use Pat The Baker Slimbos Protein Plus as a healthy extra (or 5.5syns)

I have fallen off the wagon since Christmas. I'm on plan for a few days & then I just go 100% off plan.... It's mostly down to laziness & not planning meals.
I'm only 6lbs over my target at the moment so it's not too bad but I need to get back on track before I end out at square one!

I just did a food shop & stocked up on all the speedy fruit & veg & SW essentials so I have no excuse now... Plus I have a holiday booked for 9 weeks time so I have good motivation!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 658 ✭✭✭waxmelts2000

@ Sinister Kid, gosh I'm the same I'm either really good or really bad!! I have my weigh in tomorrow but I've only been back on plan since Saturday having been off it for 8 days or so with a wedding in the mix!! I can say that my body doesn't like it when I go off plan I feel horrible! I'll fill you in tomorrow fingers crossed for only a small gain

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,503 ✭✭✭Sinister Kid

Because I'm a target member I don't have to go every week... I have been finding excuses not to go to group because I know I'm up so I haven't officially weighed in a month :o I'm dreading going back!

I know exactly what you mean Val, I feel sluggish & have terrible heartburn when I am off plan. I'm looking forward to feeling better!

Now that I have confessed I will have to get back to plan :pac:

Lost the three pounds again, delighted with myself!!! The desire to comfort eat if I'm stuck in with this snow will be unreal though.

The Be Good Wholemeal Sandwich ones are 5.5 syns each though no? And can be used as a healthy extra?

For burgers I use the aldi thins or else the Fitzgerald slim bagels multi seeded. Aldi also do a fab wholemeal bun but you need to take out some of the inside bread as you can only have 60g as your B

Don't think I'll be heading for my weigh in today as snow is pretty bad so roads are very dangerous.

I can honestly say I'm dreading Wednesday weigh in, I have lost the complete run of myself between red wine, chocolate, crisps and zero exercise . Going to try get back on plan today I'm heading to Spain for a few days Tuesday week so if I don't cop myself on I will have a stone on......

Seems to be a fairly common theme, from what I can make out! We didn’t have too much niceties in the cupboards, and I’m still afraid to venture out in the car, so I haven’t been TOO out of control. But I was unnaturally excited to find a box of hifi bars in my car yesterdat I’d forgotten I bought them last Monday, and I’d only eaten one. I’ve made a fair hole in them now though!!

Does anyone know if there’s an online food diary for SW? Like my fitness pal or similar, but like the SW food diary, if that makes sense?
I really need to get a bit better at tracking, but realistically, I’m not going to be bringing a piece of paper and a pen around with me. I can barely manage to remember nappies and wipes most days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,725 ✭✭✭Pretzill

It's the weather - comfort food the last few days has knocked me flying off plan!! Though I have been sticking to it up until Thursday for 6 weeks and the weight loss is very slow. Just 5 pound down in all those weeks - I'm sticking with it but I'm really not sure if the SW plan is for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 658 ✭✭✭waxmelts2000

I must be dying to get weighed in as I handed in my slimming world card at tesco to be scanned !!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 288 ✭✭ally_pally

I joined only the Saturday before last and this past weekend’s group was understandably cancelled. I’m kind of dying to know how I’m doing. I’ve weighed myself at home and I’m happy with what I’m seeing but I don’t particularly trust that scales.

I was down 3lbs this week bring me to 4stone 7lbs. Delighted to get my award! I know it seems ages away but I'm focusing on my target weight for my birthday in October. I think I have maybe 2 and a half more stone to lose, maybe 3. But for now I'm looking at the next 7lbs so I can get my 5 stone sticker!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 288 ✭✭ally_pally

That’s amazing. Well done Areas. As someone who’s just starting out, it’s great to hear from people like you who have stuck with it and are seeing such fantastic results.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 441 ✭✭Areas

Thanks ally pally! I've been doing this since last May and really it is a lifestyle change. I would never call it a diet! I've never felt restricted or deprived! I've had my all inclusive holiday during the summer where I enjoyed myself and then came back to reality after it! I enjoyed myself at Christmas and gained 2lbs. But I have to say if you just get to know the plan inside out and stick to it, it's so easy! I just wish I had done it years ago!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 658 ✭✭✭waxmelts2000

Week 46 up 1lb after 3 weeks I'm happy with that. Heading to Spain at the weekend so booked a holiday week. When I get back I have to get back on track I've been messing about now since January!!!
4lbs to get to target, 71lbs lost so far.

    Onwards and downwards!! Val

Had my weigh in yesterday and maintained which I was delighted with after going fairly off the rails over the weekend (a large Dominos may have been consumed..!)

I've been getting mad headaches this week though, think I'm not drinking enough water.

Over 5 stone down! You're going to feel great in your holiday clothes this year :D

Had my first weigh in over the weekend. It was two weeks since I joined as group was cancelled due to the snow. Anyway, I was delighted. Down 7.5 pounds! I really don't think I ever felt hungry or deprived in those two weeks so I'm thrilled with how it's going. Was out for lunch both days over the weekend. Did my best to make healthy choices but it can be hard to be sure so I may well have gone over on syns those days. Looking forward to a good week on plan though!

I was down 4.5 pounds last night bringing me to 4 stone 11.5 pounds! I'm absolutely delighted. I have a wedding this weekend and there's the bank holiday but to be honest I'm so motivated to get my 5 stone award that I'm not going to let myself go too mad! I'm going on holidays in a few weeks and I would love my 5 stone award before I go away.

So I went back to group last week, I was up 4lb on my previous weigh in (which means I have 7lb to loose to get back on target) Iwas ok with it, It could/should have been alot worse!

I maintained tonight, which I was a tad disappointed with as I was on plan for the week except for a couple of slices of pizza Sat nite. I should have expected it though, I am coming up to star week & I usually gain or maintain the weigh in before it. I better get a loss next week!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 324 ✭✭nermal15

I’ve maintained for the past two weigh ins. I lost my motivation for it all and also had quite a few meals out and treats through the weeks. I feel ready to get back on track now.

Does anyone else feel like sometimes staying for the meeting is a waste of time? I stayed last night and besides getting one or two good recipe ideas, the rest of the time was spent with idle chit chat and most people in the group (myself included) didn’t get to share their hopes for the week/challenges they’re facing etc., which I thought was the whole point?

Anyone tried those Aldi SlimFree meals? My gf was wondering what the syn count is in them?

Tasted one of the Chicken Tikka Masala (Syn Free) tonight with the gf and it was very tasty - takes a bit long in the oven (50 mins) but she said it's much nicer than in the microwave. Served with Cavala Long Grain at 1 Syn.

Hey, I just joined yesterday and have a question.

How many Syns would I be consuming with a Tesco soda brown bread sandwich with Lettuce and turkey?

Very little butter on the sandwich itself.

I'm still getting my head around the system itself.

    ESMITH29 wrote:

Are they the pre packed ones? I had a look at the syns online and the Tesco healthy living sandwiches are around 14-15 syns, the standard sandwiches are 17-20, and the Tesco finest ones are up to 24. If it's one you made yourself then the turkey is free (as long as it's not butter basted) the lettuce is speed, the bread could be a healthy extra but it needs to be wholemeal and weigh 80g, and it depends on if it's real butter you're using, that starts at 2syns per level teaspoon but the low fat spreads start at 1syn per level teaspoon.
I hope I helped a little bit and didn't confuse you further....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 441 ✭✭Areas

Soda bread brown/wholemeal (50g serving) 5½ syns... that's from the sliming world website.
The lettuce and turkey would be free.
And honestly you'd have to syn the butter and the syns depend on which butter you're using.
You might think it's not much but a level teaspoon of butter is 2 syns, and that doesn't go far!
My advice would be to sit down and read through the book and plan out a few days of food.
Learn the syns that you use every day.
Make the most of your HEXA and HEXB options (use 2 slices of wholmeal bread in stead of using syns on the soda bread!).
Fill up on all the free food (potatoes pasta meat) and speed food (fruit and veg!)!

    Brilliant, thanks.

It's a sandwich I made myself and the bread is fairly small so it could be a healthy extra.

    Thanks for help!

Make sure you check the bread to make sure it's a HEXB, if you're not sure put the brand in here and someone can check it for you if you don't have access to the app or the site!
It's better of knowing so you can make good choices!

The size doesn't matter, it's the ingredients :) We can check it for you here if you want!

I had the wrong bread for a week as my HEXB, I was eating wholegrain instead of wholemeal and it really did mess with my loss that week, so I'm just trying to be helpful!

    Thanks Areas,

    I really appreciate the help.

I'm in work at the minute and can't remember the exact bread it was but I'll post as soon as I get home.

If the bread isn't a Healthy Extra, I'll scrap it for something else going forward.

I will sit down, plan out the week because I really want to get this right from the start and form the habit.

It's so worth it, I don't know how much of this thread you've read but everyone is so supportive! I've been here since I started last May. Since then I've completely changed my thinking about food. I've lost 4 stone 11 and a half pounds since I began and for the past 6 months I haven't been able to exercise because of disc issues. So it really is down to what I've been eating. At the beginning there's a small bit of planning but once you figure out what foods you eat and what works for you it's simple!
Also learn what your triggers are!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 288 ✭✭ally_pally

I was shocked at how many syns were in soda bread. As it’s considered healthy I just assumed it’d be low. Planning things out and filling your fridge and presses with free and speed foods makes all the difference. So if you’re peckish you have lots of good options at your fingertips. I’m a newbie myself so still getting my head round it all. Good luck!

Anyone know any restaurants in Dublin with a Slimmers menu? The Paddocks in Clonee had one (but just facilitate requests now) and Blazing Grill in Tallaght seem to have one now. Any other suggestions?
