Terrible games on TV

Has anyone noticed that the standard of games Sky are showing seems to have dropped significantly this season? Bizarrely, West Brom v Stoke was on today instead of Chelsea v Everton. After the International break, 'Super Sunday' will be composed of Burnley v Palace and Swansea v Newcastle, while Everton v Spurs and Leicester v Chelsea sit in the 3pm position.

It seems that Sky are aiming to fulfil their contractual obligations to show teams early but in all honesty, I think the days of satellite tv showing select games are gone. I know from a UK perspective that the lower table teams obviously have large numbers of fans following those teams but for the Irish market, the top 6 are where it's at and unless those teams are being shown regularly, it's hard to justify the 40 euro expenditure every month.

As you say, it's contract obligations. Imagine the scene if they hadn't shown each team enough times and had to choose that instead of Chelsea Everton at the business end of the season!

It annoys me how Ireland is lumped in with the UK. For instance, lutv show games live once you're outside UK and Ireland. It should be classed differently.

They'll have to drastically change the way they sell games though. If the pm could sell the rights as they do now, then you buy a team pass through Sky it would be a great option.

That is the hazard of the UK & Ireland tv contract each team has to be on a min of 5 times to a max 29 + 5 more for Ireland only 3pm kick offs

If it were to sell them club by club basis then it will lead to the top clubs being even richer than they currently are.

They ALWAYS show the rubbish games at the start of the season so they can show the title run in with the top teams at the end.

It's turd polishing and marketing of the highest order.

Trying to convince subscribers that they want to watch muck like WBA, Stoke, West Ham, Crystal Palace, Brighton etc ain't going to work. You cam dress it up all you want, but the viewing figures are dropping for a reason. In the past people liked the novelty of live games and watched anything that was on. Now they are a lot more selective.

There are more games on TV and with more games come more ****e games.

The great thing is though that with BT sport on top of sky there is always some sort of decent match on at the weekend to watch from across europe so I've no problem with these extra ****e games a it just gives you more choice, I just find Sky trying to hype them up a little bit tedious at this stage.

No Champions League teams could be put into Sunday slots on this particular game week, hence the unattractive game selection on this day,

Friday is not allowed this gameweek because of players returning from international duty.

So that leaves the 2 Saturday slots for the 'big6 teams' games. City v Liverpool was a no-brainer selection for Sky. Stoke v MUFC is the BT selection. The other 2 games you suggest are similar contests, Everton v Spurs would have been my choice but its marginal enough. But only one could be chosen regardless hence the other two end up at 3pm.

Hope that at least explains the rationale anyway.

Is CL teams not playing on a Sunday a new thing? I remember multiple times Manchester United having to play on a Sunday with a group match on Wednesday.

The CL draw wasn't made until a few days ago, so (at the time BT/Sky picked the live fixtures back in July) it wasn't known which teams would be playing on Tuesday hence none of them could be picked for Sunday.

The same will apply to the Sundays before the first 4 rounds of CL group games. Beyond that it'll be better as Sky/BT will know the CL Tues/Wed combos when they pick their EPL live games, hence MUFC etc could play Sunday/Wed then.

I nearly wish I had Sky Sports so I could see them try to hype up Super Sunday this weekend!

    Burnley V Crystal Palace 13:30

    Swansea V Newcastle 16:00

Good luck with that lads :)

Renato Sanches' Swansea debut could be worth a watch?

Whenever I have time to watch a game it's always Newcastle on, I wish they'd stop showing them for a while.
Their games so far have been brutal to watch.

Every second/third Sunday is poor for the next 12 weeks, coinciding with Champions League games the following midweek.
As said its because none of the CL qualified teams could be placed in Sunday slots as at the time that the tv picks were made the CL group draw hadn't been done so any of the 5 CL teams could have had Tuesday fixtures.

I think (you might know this) that the TV companies had to pick earlier this year, they had picked up to the end of November before the CL draw had been done which seemed earlier than other years.

I thought sky sports would at least show a decent 3pm kickoff but instead of showing the clash of the champions of the previous two seasons (Leicester v Chelsea) or Everton v Spurs, we will be subjected to Arsenal v Bournemouth!

I know that Arsenal probably have the most Irish fans of all of those teams but why oh why will they not think of the neutral?

Because they are subjects to quotas as well and Arsenal will not have many 3pm kick offs so may get them in asap
