Just curious as to how much of a hassle is it?

Looking at a petrol cls and it appears this model has yet to be imported.

It has a co2 of 160-164 but all petrol cls's on system are 240 ish co2.

What's the procedure? I do remember a chap importing a 911 a few years back and he had loads of fun...:D

You present the car for VRT inspection, if it's not on their system they will send a query off to Revenue who in turn will contact the car manufacturer around the details of the car. This can take upto 10 working days. The NCT will then contact you when they receive a VRT figure.

A major ball ache really bazz - who wants to buy a car and then roll the dice.

Even as it stands for diesel cls's there are widely varying figures for the same car - down as saloon or sports coupe difference is €2,000 and more.

The lower the VRT the better and with 164g of Co2 it'll at least be 27% of the OMSP.

BTW - road tax bands have dropped? Was just checking them over weekend - seems my €750 a year is now €600.

The full answer which still arrives at bend over is:

Go to the vrt site and find their depreciation tables.

Get a selection of cars you have with same spec and mileage and get a average price.

Follow the tables and arrive at a price. Add on 10% to reduce a shock and youl have a ball park.

Takes a hour or so to get to a number.

Big petrols are cheaper over here at the moment because of the tax. Have a good look before travelling across the pond

In some cases definitely Tommy - issue is as ever choice and now with the rate almost at parity - it has to be getting harder to find the gem here vs the UK or NI?

I find with newer petrols '11 onward - I see more value in UK atm.
