Hi I am just wondering if a low noise margin could be causing my fluctuation in speeds recently. There up and down but mostly around 5 to 6mb. When issues started I noticed the dsl was alot less than normal and fairly low and when its fine that number is alot higher.

    Speed 15360 upload 765
    Line attenuation 15.6/6.3
    Dsl noise margin 6.2/16.7

Upstream you're dandy (close to exchange) but DS is close to the limit. 6dB is the target and 4dB is total failure area. Most importantly if its changing significantly its a sign of a problem. 8dB at 2AM and 7dB at 6PM is normal. 6dB at 3PM and 10dB at 3.10PM is a problem.

If you're comfortable posting, what exchange?
Is there a phone connected to the line, if so do you hear any noise (listen for a minute or two)?

Thanks for the reply. The exchange is Clonroche in Wexford. The dsl now is 9.6/16.7. Then 60 seconds later 12.6/16.7. It use to be in the twenties. Im trying to figure out what is going on. Eir state there is no issue's showing on the line even when my speeds are at 2mb. No phone connected to test unfortunately.

Its not on the NGB map so possibly congestion, ask your neighbours if they've similar problems. Congestion wont show on a line test.

Margins like that are a problem either way, they should be very steady. Push eir for a tech visit.

So had 2 engineers call today after many calls and a new router didnt change anything. They spent about 3 hours replacing copper from my gate to the exchange. The said there was no major fault but something funny was happening on the line. There is basically a new line from the gate to the exchange. If that doesnt fix it they will need to dug up the duct.

    Updated router stats.
