I had paintless dent repair done on a modern car a couple of times and it turned out quite well, especially considering the price. I remember reading that older paintwork is not as "flexible" and hence PDR doesn't work on it.

Is this true? Car is an '87 and has a couple of small dings I'd like to tidy up.
