Hi I'm going to be starting corporate Law in NUIG next week.

I don't know anyone doing the course and all of my friends are going to different colleges.

I am commuting from North Galway every day because the course has so few hours, but I'm really nervous now and especially the prospect that it will be hard for me to make friends if I'm commuting. I was half considering staying in a hostel on Thursday nights so I can go out in city but at same time am hoping I will have people to go out with!

If anyone has any advice or past experiences I'd really appreciate it!
    Thanks😊

    Hi!
I didn't go to NUIG. Lots of people are in the same situation as you and make friends easy.
People generally make friends in there class. Then there's clubs/societies. You don't have to drink on nights out all the time.
After a few weeks you'll make friends that you can stay over with for nights out.
Would anybody be able to collect you after a night out?

Thanks for your reply 😊 It's not even the night out bit I'm worried about but rather just the fact I don't want to be a loner in class and then I'm like who am I gonna be going out with if I haven't housemates or anything.....
I don't mind staying in a hostel on nights out like but just to have ppl to go with

Well in my experience people in your situation generally did make friends. You'll just miss the random drinking afternoons the odd time.
I knew people in your situation and they generally just ended up on people's sofa/floor a lot.
Are you good at making friends?

I'm very outgoing but an old head on young shoulders which could be a turn off for ppl - but am going to give my best shot at it next week

    How will you be commuting?
    Driving, lifts, bus?

I lived at home for college and got on with my class grand.
What I felt I missed out on was clubs and societies that happened in the evening.
Do remember that you will be expected to be reading and working on your own outside of lectures.

Bus - timetable is very good like I could be there at 7:45am and the last bus home is at 9pm.

The late Burkes bus can be an opportunity to socialise in itself.

You won't be having a sing-song down the back but you would be meeting friends, neighbours etc.

I dont know how much friends you will make in class like the other poster stated. But you will in societies
Travelling to Uni will mean you miss some of the random get togethers that will happen
I travel to Uni every day although i'm not in the same boat as you being a little older :pac:
    You will be fine
