Elden Ring Nightreign trailer is channeling 2007 AMV vibes by using a period appropriate music track

Trailer 2 will probably feature Let the Bodies hit the Floor

Anyone else looking forward to the front mission 3 remake:

The original is one of my absolute favourite games on the PS1. It's a pretty basic srpg and quite simple but it also makes it heaps of fun with a battle system that is fun to break.

I'd recommend this game to anyone getting started on srpgs as it's just so much fun and easy to get into. Also a huge amount of content with two separate campaigns, one of which features loads of branching paths.

I do believe that is the first turn based game I played and was enjoying up until I got stuck in a save/death loop. So yes, I might actually give it a go.

That happened to me as well and there's a really simple way out of it.

Basically the game isnt good at telling you how mech parts works.

So you get your first parts, upgrade them to level 3 and then it looks like it's better than every other part in the game. But that's because all the other parts start at level 1 and will out pace level 3 beginner parts when levelled up.

So you should be changing parts constantly for better protection.

The other reason to do this is because you learn abilities from parts. So if you make the mistake I made you end up with lvl 1 moves when you should be learning the level 2 and 3 moves from better parts.

What happens is you end up getting to the Chinese special forces in the tunnel and getting your ass handed to you when up to that point it was a breeze.

If you change parts regularly it's actually a pretty easy game.

Somehow that is actually more awkward than The Rehearsal's usage of Evanescence.

Haha craziest season of tv I’ve watched. Can’t believe I have come across that song again with this trailer lol

Was going to put this in gaming humour but there's nothing humourous about it:

That would actually be worth collecting. Must be one of the ten disks printed.

Sure, it's so rare for a reason, and not a good one.

Not my type of game, but I love that Clair Obscur gave birth to the terms Final Frenchtasy and J'RPG.

Yeah, tried to subscribe but no option to select different country. They are looking into it as per their subreddit

I hope the team behind Game Informer make the new incarnation work, though the writing from my admittedly limited experience always seemed a bit bland and too reliant on preview access - probably because it was a glorified GameStop ad magazine, to be fair 😅

Hopefully they have more freedom now and have solid editorial plans, though for now there’s a lot of other places I’d say have a better rep for strong games criticism and writing.

Yeah, just like the streaming services there are now too many options to be able to support/subscribe to them all.

Finished the Cairn demo on ps5 and it's a goddamn delight. The feeling of reaching a summit and looking down at what you just climbed was immense and that was just the tutorial mountain. J can see myself playing the demo multiple times to try different routes, highly recommend giving it a go

I just recently learned something about what I like in games now. Or rather what I dislike in games now; choices. Picked up Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden. Aside from being a fairly boring intro and meh combat, it seems it will be full of "moral" choices, and tbh I just couldn't be arsed anymore. I'm sick of choices. It's why I prefer games like GoW who tell a story and bring me along for the ride. And Banishers has the black/white good/bad choices. I hope by the time AC Shadows comes to plus, they'll have added the ability to change back to canon after having started the game.

It also makes me wonder, for sequels, how do the devs decide what was the canon choice. It's gonna annoy some of the playerbase, no doubt. Like, which Cyberpunk ending will be picked for Cyberpunk 2? They varied wildly and even depended on the gender of your character... christ I'm getting old...

Probably be a new character, story etc with some generic ties back to the first game. Either that or it'll be similar to the start of the first game in terms of picking Corpo/Streetkid/Nomad, where they have different starts (maybe based off the ending you had from the first game), then they hit the same story point and you just later get different dialogue options later in the game based on your origin.

There are always plenty of ways of writing around these things. Same with the old Telltale games like The Walking Dead, they use your choices from the previous game as a jumping off point, then 'EVENT' happens and it segues into a new story with maybe a few references later in the game back to your previous choices. If you chose saving Person A over Person B in the first game, chances are Person A dies or leaves early in the next game in order to negate your choice.

It's one of the reasons Game of Thrones was one of the worst Telltale Games; they had too many big deaths and changes in the story that it meant if there had to have been a second game of it, they would have had to do something almost completely different.

I'm pretty sure they milked V enough, Cyberpunk 2 will have another protagonist. Fingers crossed for Solomon Reed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,554 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Solo yeah, V and Johnny's story has been told, both should just become legends of night city in 2. Reed should definitely make a return in some way but yeah, brand new protagonist hopefully.

I think for Life is Strange for the final decision they originally said they went with the more popular decision as the canon ending.

Though from what I read I think they went back on that for Double Exposure, but I haven't played it so not sure how they handled it.

On DE that's a part early in where you basically tell the game what you chose at the end of the first game and it goes with that as the backstory

Watching the Xbox Showcase, and the thing that struck me most about it: MS spent 70 billion dollars on studios, and the only things that people are asking for in the chat are Gears and Forza.

    Must be depressing.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Arts Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 31,117 CMod ✭✭✭✭johnny_ultimate

I think Microsoft bought a lot of those studios for prestige rather than return on investment. A good portion of the Xbox and GamePass audience probably doesn’t really care about a new Double Fine game, despite that being the best Xbox studio.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 119 ✭✭Higgo84

High on Life 2, Grounded 2, Indiana DLC, Outer Worlds 2 are the games I cannot wait to play.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,657 ✭✭✭Mr Crispy

A new Double Fine game is always welcome. I enjoyed the Plague Tale games well enough, so I'll definitely follow the spin off's progress. Dawn of Bloodwalker, Beast of Reincarnation, (and I'm rubbish at remembering names I just heard) the Don't Nod sci-fi game, the mad South Korean action game, and the RPG from the Spiritfarer Devs are all games I'll keep an eye on too. Oh and that one where you're cleaning up a hotel with a talking cat and musical numbers.
