Driving from Cork to Dublin yesterday and I saw two army guys in uniform using a speed gun on the M8. They were resting on the bonnet of an army vehicle so no doubt who they were - presumably from the nearby Kilworth base.

I'm guessing they were practicing its use, but would they really use them on base ?

Probably military police checking army vehicles.

Checking their own personal. Apparently quite strict too.

Saw a big movement from kk hearing to cork today. The N76 is the main road :confused:for the army.

Fines/points no, the DF MP's have no authority for FCPN or issue of PP's

Disciplinary action, yes, may result in loss of military driving licence and financial loss.

A private I know who to this day is still serving left the barracks one night to go home in his car, he was drunk, crashed into 2 parked cars leaving them written off plus his own.

Gardai arrested him at the scene and took him to the local station.

He was charged with drink driving.

In a civilian court he was convicted and disqualified.

    I'm in the army.

Members of the DF are bound by both civilian and military law.

If you break civilian law, the AGS can and do arrest and charge you. This will result in military disciplinary action being taken against you too.

I think the rex post was worded incorrectly - I'd assume that a garda cannot arrest or punish an army member whilst that member is on official duty. Once off duty he/she would be considered a civilian and gardai would treat as same.

Got into his car in the barracks itself while drunk.

    Does that matter?

No idea how the army work in that regard.

I got done for speeding a long time back in Mitchelstown - was a soldier using the speed gun, garda stopped me for the 'chat'.

    Irrelevant.

The law of the land still stands.

So , if a soldior murders a civilian for no reason, but is 'on the clock' so to speak..
The gardai don't deal with it....... ahhh.. no

Seriously, are bar stoll lawyers just freemen in inebriation

You'll see this quite commonly on the M8 for Kilworth and the M7 for the Curragh. Along with seeing APCs with L plates, its one of the odder aspects of Kildare life.
