So I am going back as a mature student doing a level 8 Diploma in Health and Safety at work.

It takes two years to do the course.

I am wondering what are my options when I qualify in this in regards to work and earning a living.

    Any help would be brilliant.

    Thanks

You've committed to a Higher Diploma that's going to take 6 semesters over 3 years and cost €8000.00 and you only now enquire about career prospects?

Currently loads of work in the industry. It's very broad and you can specialise in a sector which interests you e.g. pharma, construction, healthcare etc.

The important thing is getting experience in the sector that you wish to work in from the outset as it can be hard to jump from one sector to the other.

Would suggest starting off in general consultancy which will give you exposure to a range of sectors and you will then have an idea of which one you prefer.

Actually it's a two year course at night twice a week and it's €6000. Plus I'm a mature student and I always wanted to go study something in college at nights while I also work full time but I want to know my options in that field when I get my degree

I would say for someone else initially to build up experience. You would also need to build up a good network and reputation before working for yourself.

Any idea what kind of money I could expect to make after I graduate and potentially long term as I get more experience?

Starting off quite low. Maybe in the €25-35k region depending on location.

With 6/7 years good experience, you could be up towards €50-60k.

Yeah that's what I heard aswell. I heard though if you travel abroad or work for yourself it's a lot more? Are you working in this field?

Hey Anthony it's in UCC in Cork. If you Google ucc health and safety at work courses. There are three you can do, I am going for the generic level 8 one( there is only one level 8 to choose). The other ones are lower level and one of them is for construction only. It's Tuesday's and Thursday's 6.30pm - 9.30pm

    Hope this helps
