Floor tiles

My mother has been advised to replace the carpet in her hallway with floor tiles that resemble wood. The house isn't that warm with the heating on even with the carpet so I'm thinking that floor tiles aren't going to help this? Is this the case?

Your floor covering will have very little affect on your heating.

Stick a underfloor heating system under the tiles.

If there is underfloor heating in the hall, then changing to tiles will make a big difference

Wasn't even considering that there might be underfloor heating. Heard "mother" and assumed older house. :pac:

No underfloor heating, just from the rads. I think it's crazy to switch to tiles as they always feel cold to the touch in friend's houses.

A GOOD plumber or if you know a BER accessor who would give the house a quick look over and advise on what's best.

If you want to post details of the house here, there are lots of knowledgeable lads who give good advice.
House age, detached or not, type of windows and doors, attic and wall insulation, heating source and sort of controls, room thermostats, radiator thermostats etc.

Rural bungalow, late 70's build, double glaze window and doors, insulation pumped into walls but a friend suspected that they didn't fill the cavities properly. No thermostats in rooms, radiators heated from oil fired cooker conversion. Windows are about fifteen years old and are draughty.
