I think he should for cost cutting reasons and I think he should be replaced by rotating hosts.

As long as he remains RTE royalty he won't be axed. Simple as.

Yes truly dreadful presenter of a show, a shadow of what it once with substandard guests.

I'm not sure I'd trust RTE to make a change that improved things, we'd probably end up with Al Porter or Vogue Williams.

As long as people keep watching it in large numbers, there's no reason to replace him. Putting Ray D'Arcy out of his misery should be a far more pressing issue.

And as long as people keep watching Ray D'Arcy in large enough numbers, there's no reason to replace him either...

I'll say it once again - cancelling the Saturday Night Show the moment it overtook the LLS in the ratings, and replacing it with D'Arcy's show, is something RTE should never be forgiven for.

Changing Ryan Tubridy or Ray D'Arcy won't make much difference. What needs to be changed is policy. If Tubridy was replaced would such things as all the RTE canteen type guests, the Louis Walsh devotion, the woeful modern country music muck and the Valentines Special be gone? I doubt it very much. That is the problem.

When Tubridy took over from Pat Kenny, he inherited a lot of the baggage from Kenny's era and continued because that is what the policymakers wanted. So, Bill Cullen, Twink and PJ Gallagher overdoses continued. Overhyped boybands were featured during Kenny's years and Tubridy just continued that. Cullen, Twink & Gallagher dropped out of favour but the Louis Walsh devotion and the boybands remains something initiated in the Gaybo era and continued by Kenny and Tubridy.

Funnily enough, they seldom if ever appeared on the SNS...

In my opinion the Late Late show is a 1960s television show concept that is long, long past its best before date.

He represents the moral decay prevalent in post millennium Ireland, so no.

You didn't even know which forum you were on (you thought you were posting in After Hours - then edited your post).

Defend the existence of Tubridy etc. and the awful service provided by RTE all you like (to even suggest it's "fun"). Doesn't change the fact that the service provided by RTE is abysmal.

RTE and Irish media in general need to get away from the same old personalities and same old things they always promote. Sure what they have on has some following but there is nothing then for a lot of people who want something else. Our media are not the best at providing variety and it is always obvious that they are there to push certain handpicked individuals.

It's not very pc using that word or retarded....

    Edit. Ohhhh handpicked. Sorry.

The media wants to think so. They pick whoever is their new golden boy or girl or outfit and push him or her or them to the hilt. I can see the 3 you mention are at present among those who RTE push. Louis has been a consistent presence on RTE for over 20 years.

I prefer Nathan Carter to the other 2 but I can see all 3 have been singled out and pushed while others haven't. Louis Walsh is proof that changing the host from Gaybo to Kenny to Tubridy does not change the show. A quick review of the 3 hosts:

Gaybo: his early days were good by all accounts and one can see some of this online. He was doing the show in an era that was less fake and plastic. Real entertainment legends featured and international music pioneers, comedy greats, actors, etc. all frequented. By the 1990s, the show was entering into the now familiar territory of Louis Walsh and boybands.

Kenny: As time went by, a lot changed and what once was considered revolutionary was not any longer. By 1999, there was nothing left to shock Ireland with all the relevations about politicians, clergy and so on and with the mystery of what Gerry Adams sounded like no longer a mystery. Kenny focused more on serious political and economic stuff but continued with boybands, U2 wannabes and comedy acts introduced by Gaybo. Kenny seemed to up the amount of exposure of the likes of Westlife.

Tubridy: Like Kenny, Tubridy continued with guests from the later Gaybo era with the likes of Twink and Bill Cullen being among those who featured regularly on all 3 presenters' eras. Tubridy dropped a lot of the heavy political debates Kenny emphasised but Kenny's leaden wooden persona was replaced by Tubridy's infantile cliched modern leprachaun persona. Tubridy's biggest mistake though was opening the floodgates for the worst modern country music in the world performed by (you guessed it) ex members of boybands and pushing the likes of such individuals as Lee Matthews shows us that this show has become a promoter of boyband singers no matter what they want to do.

Next host? My vote is for Nicky Byrne!! If the Late Late Show is a boyband promoter, then let's have the most famous member of the most famous boyband host it!!

The Late Late is not a chat show. It is a cash cow for RTE, a 2.5 hour advert with some guests.
For whatever reasons, over a million still watch it every week.
That's a large market audience and RTE charge appropriately.
With that in mind, the content of the show itself is as formulaic as it's ever been.
There is no need to actually be creative. The canteen guests, Louis Walsh et al, and the misery slots merely exist as filler between the all important ad breaks.

Tubridy has no editorial control of the show. His job is to seque nicely from ad break to ad break.
I can see the reasons for axing him to save costs, but there is a reluctance to spook the horses so to speak with looking for a new host.
The audience may turn away eventually and with Tubs as vanilla and non threatening as he is, he is a safe pair of hands for the cash cow and will be going nowhere until he himself decides to go.

Plus Nicky has just about all the "qualities" that Tubs has - as evidenced by the Million Euro Challenge... :D;)
