Hi, jyst purchased a secondhand car.
Was advertised as spares or repairs.
Cost very little due to nct fail on high emissions. Thought that if i liad it with dipatane and lucas oil additive after giving it a full service it may just pass.
Car goes well, jyst burns oil..
Took a look today underneath and saw fabric hanging down from some part of exhaust near middle front of car..
Im no mechanic, but said it to a pal, and he said people put a fire blanket on a cat to get thru nct.
It isnt exhaust baffling as no loudness coming from exhaust.
    Anyone know?? Pics are up

Is it not just part of the shield after falling from above the exhaust?

It looks like the exhaust heat shield has disintegrated on your car.

You should be able to pick up a replacement in a car dismantlers.

Would heat shield be a nct fail?
    Im guessing yes...

    hi

have you tried removing it altogether as if its a rag sitting on the exhaust it could well watch fire. If it were me i would get it out pretty damm quick.

More i look at it, it looks like heat shield is destroyed...will deal with it if emissions pass. Thanks everyone.

A throwaway culture is to the benefit of motoring in Ireland?

He said he will repair if it passes the NCT.

Yeah, thats whats wrong with motoring ireland alright! Forget insurance fraud and high premiums and penalising cars older than 15 years to satisfy the dealer industry in ireland that for years was involved in rampant price fixing!!
Plus penalising motorists via tax that have a vehicle before 2nd half of 2008.
Im the bad guy for either wanting to repair a car only eleven years old or use it for parts if fully beyond repair.

Thankfully your high-horse doesn't need an NCT.
