You mean this actual Philex aerial, or maybe a similar, better quality one? (Note they didn't even unfold the director elements for the photo.)

No matter, it shouldn't 'keep moving in the wind', unless it's poorly installed, say on the only-good-for-the-attic kit that comes with it.

Log-periodics are all end-mounted, so anything bigger than that little 20-element yoke probably wouldn't fare any better on the aforementioned mounting kit either, & I'd imagine you'd need something bigger.

As you are in the East Coast overlap area I would recommend the following:

    a) Get an engineer out and have the existing antenna system secured and checked out. Kilkeel is 400W and Clermont is 160kW so you will need an amp. Also there is CCI between Kilkeel and the Moel-y-Parc station so there may be dropouts in fine weather,
    b) A log periodic generally has low gain although there are very good kits with built in amps that you can buy. They do have very low windloading properties however. The aerialsandtv.com web site has plenty of information you can read.
    c) See what the neighbours are using: they might be using amped grids.
I am afraid it all comes down to cost. If it was me I would have a proper mast mounted system with sturdy pole, low noise amp and a suitable aerial for CC and Kilkeel: the aerial should be directed at Kilkeel.

    Cheers for the replies.
Yes I have that Philex 48 Element aerial. It was in my attic and was working fine. I moved it out onto the chimney due to getting the attic converted. As I did the move myself I probably didn't secure the pole fully with the correct sized brackets.

MOst of my neighbours would have one of these http://www.freetv.ie/wide-band-grid-uhf-aerial/ from before digital.

I will purchase one of the 13.5" Chimney Cradle Corner Bracket and use this to secure the pole.
