One of my girls is thinking of transferring to her and is looking at an apartment on sale in this complex in Salthill. I read there was a burglary in one of the units not long ago. Do ppl think its a safe place to buy and is it worth the 780k€ price tag?

Duplex I think is the correct term.

It's not actually €780,000 though, is it?

That's what she says the seller says it is.

That's crazy. You'd get a four or five bed-roomed house in a "better" area for that.

Is it worth either price? Given the complex was just burgled and there will be serious building and parking issues around there shortly?

Anyone can get burgled at any time. It doesn't have to mean a place is "bad". Unless some junkie lives in the building and broke into a neighbour. But I don't have that info.
As for the work starting shortly, that will finish and hopefully make the are more attractive, not less.

Parking is difficult in many city areas.

Tbh, go and look for yourself and see if you think it's worth it. It's your/her money :)

If you were a thief what neighbourhood would you pick? Any affluent or middle-class area will be more of a target for burglaries.

Those areas also have more pull to demand increased patrols if there's a spate of problems. Get a monitored alarm and make sure your personal belongings are properly covered in your home insurance. Chances are good you'll never have a problem.

Methinks it's not really for sale, then.

    Apt 3 in Kingshill is €255,000 http://www.daft.ie/galway/apartments-for-sale/salthill/apt-3-kingshill-salthill-galway-1505145/

That price you quoted is laughable for any apartment in Galway city. Rethink.

Has it got a bridge on it? All land needs a bridge.

With that money, you'd buy 3 of them within an hours drive of the city. And you'd have no one bothering you.

Helll, you'd buy a resort in the south of France for that.

Some people's thinking is screwed. Next crash is just around the corner too. AHHAHH!

Thanks everybody, I'll pass along those comments to her and "pray" she has enough sense to take some of them on board.
