Hi All, i need to re-tax my car, it is a banger over the next year i plan on getting a new car. I want to tax it for a year as its a 73 euro saving as opposed to taxing it for two periods of 6 Months.
Bottom line can I get a refund on Tax ?

Yes, but only if you scrap it or export it. Additionaly there must be more than 3 months or more tax left.

the only way you can get money back from motor tax is if you have more than 3 months of tax on it and are scrapping it.

If you have the car declared as scrapped then you can reclaim the tax if there is more than 3 months remaining on it. Its a lot of hassle to go to in order to save a few quid, tax it for 6 months and then 3 month if you plan on changing car around that time.

Makes no sense - 6 months is not cheaper at all than taxing it twice for 3 months.

    3 months = 190
    6 months = 373
    12 months = 673

    Its a pure scam

Wait till we're all driving EV's... the Gov will have to recoup motor tax and fuel duty

Expect Motor tax to be MASSIVE for EV's and everything else

    i'm thinking

    3 months = €1,190
    6 months = €1,373
    12 months = €1,673

    :p
