Bog land in South Galway

    Hi,

My grandfather left me 70 Ha of bogland in South Galway some years back. He used the land to cut turf but that's going back over 20 years now. A fair bit of the neighbouring lands are in forrestation but ours is completely bare. Can anyone give some rough advice on perhaps the value on the land and what other options may be available, i.e. planting, renting, etc.

    Thanks in advance

If there is forestry planted around there,I see no problem with planting it

    If it's plantable 2-3k/acre if it's not maybe 1k

They changed the rules on what type of ground they're letting to be planted last year so it might not be suitable for forestry

Its usually a good sign if its surrounded by already forested land to get permission to plant, sometimes for tourism and landscape reasons its refused
