Any chance an Irish Freeview setup will be able to receive it ?

Most Spanish channels are on the 19 degree satellites. The normal UK FreeSat setup aimed at 28 degrees will not get this. However if you have a dish set for 19 degrees it may be possible.

Google says it will be based in Bogotá and broadcasting to Latin America.

biggest thing I miss about the old analogue Astra/Sky system is the availability of proper european channels. Apart from one or 2 news channels in french etc, everything we have on Sky is UK focused and then there is the pile of asian channels. I noticed the other day that all the asian channels now seem to be available on a regular sky subscription such as the Sony, Star and Zee channels.

I agree ..... I miss the few German and French channels. I don't have the will to set up the dish for them specifically.

back in the day I used to rely on dutch channel RTL4 for movies before we eventually ended up getting Sky Movies. The dutch channels scrambled some shows but most of the stuff was free and available in english with dutch subtitles. The german channels were great for music, particularly the summer German music festivals, think it was the station WDR that showed alot of that Rockpalast and Rock Am Ring. I used to also watch wrestling on Galavision as well.
'Sky' was so much more interesting back then too and all the European channels on the same dish were just a very big bonus. 'Sky' is nowhere nearly as interesting these days.

WDR have recently been celebrating 40 years of Rockpalast by raiding the archives. Some great memories from the past including Rory, Bowie etc. ARTE HD also has some good stuff lately including Deep Purple, Sting and the classic 1970 Isle of Wight.

Freeview is a UK terrestrial service through an aerial that can be got in certain parts of Ireland. Why do you think UK Freeview would broadcast a Spanish news channel?

WDR tonight are doing a livestream of a metal festival in Rockpalast. The link seems to work fine on an Irish ip address, here is the link if anyone's interested.

Winston_1, even my patience with your pendantry is reaching its limits at this stage. The next time I see an unhelpful post from you it will be a ban

I streamed some of that, thanks.

Stream quality was good, not so sure about the act I caught :)

I only found out about this yesterday, WDR had been streaming this event since Wednesday if only I knew. It's channels like WDR which really made the old Astra service shine. Far better than any of the 'music' channels we currently receive through Sky.

Maybe I should think about investing in a relatively cheap free to air 19.2 Astra system again.

I wonder how attentive the 'powers that be' are in relation to putting a second dish on my gable mount, pointed to 19.2.
It is likely that being 'in the sticks' it would not be noticed for years :)

No need for a second dish, just an offset LNB.
