    1. There is hard water in my area, how can you help?

Irish Water do not have funding to support such an initiative; any change to this would have to be determined by the Commission for Energy Regulation (CER). As hard water is not harmful to health, it is not considered a priority at this time.

Due to the challenges facing our national water services, Irish Water's focus for the foreseeable future will be on the provision of clean drinking water, the reduction of water leaks and supply depletion, and the disposal of wastewater in a manner that protects the environment.

    2. Can I commence building without receiving the letter of connection from Irish Water?

As every New Connection application differs, the response you receive in terms of the feasibility and costs of your proposed connection may have an impact on your current building plans.

As such, pending a confirmation of this necessary information, we cannot advise you as to whether you should proceed with building works. If you choose to do so it would be at your own discretion.

    3. I have noticed a strong chemical taste from my drinking water in Stillorgan, what can I do?

Irish Water is aware of a number of recent complaints from customers in relation to the odour and taste of drinking water supplied from the Ballyboden Reservoir. This reservoir is an uncovered treated water reservoir and there is a project currently underway on-site to deliver a covered reservoir by Quarter 4 2018.

The sampling results for the reservoir indicate the presence of very low levels of an organic compound called Geosmin. It can result in some people detecting a slightly earthy taste or odour from their drinking water.

We can confirm that there is no threat to public health and all samples comply with the Drinking Water Regulations. We have increased our normal water quality sampling programme as a precaution to keep the situation under close review. We have put in place measures at the reservoir site to address this issue.

The areas that are supplied by this reservoir include:

    Terenure
    Rathgar
    Rathmines
    Donnybrook
    Dartry
    Milltown
    Rathfarnahm
    Dundrum
    Ballinteer
    Stillorgan
    Sandyford

We hope this information will be of help. If you have any further queries, please let us know.

    4. The Irish Water Code of Practice for Water Infrastructure, section 3.7.1 leads me to the incorrect section. How can you help?

We can confirm that Section 3.7 should redirect you to Section 3.5.17, not 3.45. We are currently working on correcting this on the Code of Practice Document.

The correct section is on page 34 of the existing document.

    5. I need a bill to show residency in Ireland, would you be able to provide me with a copy of my latest bill?
