    Hi,
I'm an Austrian law graduate and I'm planning to move to Ireland next year. Currently I'm a trainee in an Austrian commercial law firm in the areas of Labour law, Real Estate law and also a little bit in Coporate law and Banking law. My plan would be to do a Masters degree next year in Ireland and look for an apprenticeship after that. That would be after I would work for 1,5 years in the Austrian law firm that I am working right now.

I alreay informed myself on how to qualify as a solicitor in Ireland, but what seems to be really difficult is finding an apprenticeship in an Irish law firm. Thats why I'm wondering how my chances are as a foreign law graduate with fluent german and english and 1,5 years of working experience in a foreign law firm to secure one of these rare apprenticeships.

I would be thankful for any help and comments.

    Cheers

Realise that the laws and legal systems in the two are very different.

One place to look might be financial or other international services. Certainly there are German banks in Dublin, not sure about Austrian.

I think it should be relatively easy to find a traineeship with your background. You should start with a scatter-gun approach by sending as many applications as you can to top- and middle-tier law firms in Ireland.

Finding these firms takes a bit of digging because Irish law firms don't get into the big-boy lists that US and UK firms do but they can be found with a bit of googling.

You have rare core skills in terms of languages and your experience thus far will be appealing to most law firms.

I will say that rejection is a common theme for traineeship applicants in this country, so don't be disheartened when you get rejection letter after rejection letter (if that's the case - it might not be!) but keep trying and you'll get something suitable.

    Best of luck!
